buying a shotgun sling
I need to buy a shotgun sling and was wondering what you all use? Any thing to look for or to stay away from. I've been eyeing the Claw slings. Does anybody use this one? Thanks!!!

Re: buying a shotgun sling
the $6 one at bimart works great. No need to spend any amount of money on something you are most likely going to thrash.

Re: buying a shotgun sling
I've just been using an Uncle Mike's sling which I slightly modified putting a Nickel plated Q.T. sling swivel on the front (mine has a loop on the back that goes around the wrist of the Buttstock)
Slings on shotguns are really handy when your hands are full or your wading in water, doing something and you want to have your gun on you. Sometimes it's handy for hanging your gun on a tree limb when things are flooded.
Usually while shooting I take mine off the gun and put it in a pocket so it doesn't hang up or catch on limbs etc. when I go to shoot.
What I like about the Uncle Mike's is its metal quick adjust buckle making it easy to quickly adjust the length for carrying.

Re: buying a shotgun sling
Not familiar with the one in the pic. My only suggestion would be to get one with some rubber on it, doesn't slide off your shoulder as easily. Other than that, it's just a carry strap so go with what suits you.
regards, aw

Re: buying a shotgun sling
This one is made with somekind of rubber compound. Cabelas sells them and most of the reviews have been positive.

Re: buying a shotgun sling
The one I have has two nylon loop ends that slip over the stock and the barrel...no swivel attachment. I pulled up on some Geese and couldn't see my sight because the nylon loop was bunched up and blocking my vision down the barrel. Would definitely recommend swivel connections on the front.

Re: buying a shotgun sling
I have the same one as OutdoorBum, but I would reccomend it because it is cheap and very easy to remove. Slip it on to carry out, slip it off when shootin' time starts and stick it in your blind bag. This sling won't freeze up on you when it gets wet like the removable swivel types do.

Re: buying a shotgun sling
I bought the Avery Finisher sling last year and it is the best I've bought for the price. Take a look, I do have a Final Approach Sling that also works very well.
