That is a nice photo. I've called till I'm blue in the face but not much luck. Gonna do it more this year, law of averages will catch up sooner or later.
Every coyote I've ever shot has been a target of opertunity while hunting something else. He's one and I even had a camera with me at the time. First thing I ever shot with that rifle. mod 700 6.5-06 w/140gr Hornady. I was elk hunting near South Jct. Got the elk a few days later.

Do we need a furbearer license to pop bobcats, even if they are targets of opportunity and we aren't specifically hunting them?

Neat picture.
That sure is a pretty remington. The yodeler is not too shabby either Was the 6.5 a factory offering at one time?
I have a Mauser that's some variation of a 8mm06 that I would like to make a 6.5 out of.

by the way you also have to bring every cat you take into an odfw office where they tag it with an export tag. it illegal to even possess (let alone sell) any cat that does not have this tag 5 days after the season ends (otters too FYI)

Re: Predators
Fun Thread. Let's keep it alive. Maybe another Sticky?
Here is my last predator called in. I used a Weems call... (no longer in production)
Shot with a 270 that I was borrowing for a hunt I was on in Sweden.
Had called from the same place 3 hours earlier. I'd sighted a Crown Deer (like an elk). No open season but I wanted to try and get close. Also was gunning for another Roe buck.. (humm this isn't sounding like a predator hunt post)
Anyway... After the Crown Deer had left I climbed into the 15 foot high wooden tower I'd sat in 4 days earlier on my first ever Swedish Moose hunting experience. It was my last day of hunting in Sweden. Light was fading fast. I could see two groups of Roebuck but they were out in the open. After 2 minutes of calling out comes the fox from the other side of the field 300 yards away. He stopped at 120 yards. I called again and he moved in to 70 yards then stopped. I leveled on him with the 270. He dropped at the shot and the bullet didn't even exit. Somehow it went the length of the fox stopping just under the thin hide. I was able to have the hide imported and tanned in Oregon. It was my second fox hunt in Sweden. Hmmmm I suppose that is an unintended pun...

What's the average distance of the coyotes when you shoot. I found most east side coyotes in Oregon to be well under 60 yards when I shot.
My gun of choice is a shotgun .

That would have bin at about 15 feet but did not have my shotgun so ended up being about 20 yards.
It verys for me on what they are doing...Most are close but some are out there..Got to shoot them if
they are circling down wind..

Re: Predators

I think this was the first coyote i called in and shot. There were a few before this but a learning curve was in affect and all i did was educate them. The first coyote i ever called in came running up behind me and got within 5 FEET before it noticed me. I dont know who jumped higher, but we were both very suprised.
Its a bad picture but i consider this a predator. I didnt call it in but i still thought it was cool.

Shows you I know how to shoot
I have been getting rid of some of them. The gun in the snow pics was a 220 Swift that was shoved in my hands that morning. Needless to say, I missed the first shot and got used to the gun shortly after. The camo'd Savage is the 22-250 I am shooting now - It's great!
I have a friend who used to rep for Remington and I did get to shoot quite a few different calibers on different hunts. I do like having a few to choose from and knowing where they hit it key.

Re: Predators
Okay I have a question.
My son and I are just about ready to get into some coyote hunting. Just wondering what you guys do with the pelts when you've skinned them out?
I know when I was a kid we use to trap and sell them to a guy. But thats been 35 years ago. Any help would be great.
