Default Successful hunt with my 3 yr old

I had drawn a Mill Creek Doe or spike tag. I had been unable to get out due to all my other hunts. It was looking like I would not make it out this weekend either, since my wife is out of town and I have my 3 yr old son. So I decide I will take him on his first "real" hunt since it will be just him and I. We ended up seeing some bucks that I couldn't shoot since my tag is for doe or spike. It was great to have my 3 yr old by my side whispering to me "get your gun off your shoulder and shoot". I had to explain the whole buck tag vs doe tag thing. To which he just gave me a funny look. Anyway a little later and a lot of walking for him I was able to take a spike with him there watching. That was a very special moment for me. I can't express the excitement he had. It was great. He kept saying "that is a huge deer". In reality it was pretty small, but I was able to get it done with him along which is what my goal was. So we took a picture with the camera phone and sent to Mom who is shopping at Cabelas in Lacey, WA. She called right away and was crying she was so happy. I think my little boy will be a great hunter in time. I can't wait to have him as a partner full time. I also have to thank my hunting partner for going along and not letting a 3 yr old bother his hunt.

My favorite time is when I'm in the woods with my two boys. Congrats on the spike and thanks for getting another person hooked on hunting (He may not know it yet but he's hooked!). BH

I was 3 when my dad took me on my first hunting trip. Had my fingers buried so far in my ears when he went BANG on a nice 4pt muley. Only missed 1 deer season since that time in 24 years. Good on you for taking jr with you!!

Very cool story. Nice work. Taking the kids when you are prepared is the best.

I've posted this before but here it is again:

I'd rather be hunting with my kids than hunting FOR my kids!

Good on ya mate for taking your child!
