Sea Foam, I don't know how quickly they can move, but we did well last Saturday. The three of us fished about 4.5 hours and boated 4 nooks and lost a couple others. We were fishing the pile with down riggers, so not too many coho's.

Last Fri/Sat it was the NW side of the pile - can't miss all the commercial boats working the area. Whole herring, RSK, flasher, 120 ft. down on the downrigger. From the GPS, the number is N44,33.818 W124,25.499 This was about the middle of the pack on Fri, and south of the pack Sat, but we did well there and a little east of the spot. Also heard that 220' of water off the lighthouse was working also. But then they may have moved!

Default Newport Nooks

Has anyone heard of where the Nooks are at right now? I talked to the guy at Harry's tackle on wednesday and he thinks they all left the county and moved to Winchester bay area. If it's not too snotty I'm gonna try it this weekend. Maybe do just a morning shot.

OK Thanks. It sounds like the pile is probably the best bet still. I'll give you a report next week.

The chinook are still off the coast. I went out lastnight and got two strait out from the jetty in 220 ft. of water. I found two rips that were very close together and I trolled in between them doing a north tack. One of the chinook was a hog at 40lbs. weighted at the S.Beach Marina store. The other was small but it was a nook. I got them with the same method suggested by Orca, 120ft deep with a whole herring and flasher. No hoochie except for the one that went with me. Good luck and keep at it.

Thanks Stick Flicker. A commercial guy said the same thing about Nooks in that area and that can be reached quickly. I'm gonna stay close to port with my slow boat in case it decides to kick up.
