Surf Pics from Zihwatanejo
Found birds working bait at the rumored spot.
Spoons were the ticket for some yellowtail jack surf action. Great fun, water was about 80 degrees and these fish are scrappy. They have no problem peeling 50 or 100 yards off the spool 5 or 6 times before you can land them. Trying to fight them with waves koncking the crap out of you at the same time was a blast. We hear rumors of numerous Dorado about 40 miles south at a spot that terrafin confirms a nice current break. Gonna load extra gas in the ponga and head 180 degrees till we hit warm water and fish in the morning.

Re: Surf Pics from Zihwatanejo
If you find a reef a few miles out in the panga you may run into wahoo with the tuna. They tend to run a bit deeper. Those 2 fish are a helluva combo. I prefer the wahoo in taste. Both are fast and furious. Way to go pescador! Great Jacks. You may try snorkeling areas you want to fish, you will be amazed at what you see b4 you throw your lines out.

Re: Surf Pics from Zihwatanejo
Mexico......
Wow, I fished In Puerto Vallarta last year for spring break. I went Fishin everymorning for 4 days. In the same conditions as you see in the first pic, birds... birds... birds... Flying everywhere, slamming into the water to eat the biatfish, that is being pushed up to the surface by larger predatorial fish. After 4 mornings of fishing and coming back to the hotel empty handed, the 5th morning i hooked and landed this large fish, i was told my the locals its Called "Toro" (spanish for bull i think???) Fought this guy for a good 30 mins on a steelhead spinning setup on 8 lb test. I will enclose a photo for prooft to this fishing story.
Tight lines.. dylan

Re: Surf Pics from Zihwatanejo
Yep,
The local name is "Toro" (bull) I believe it is technically a Pacific Jack Crevall which is slightly different from an Atlantic.
Great fight and awsome Ceviche'!

Re: Surf Pics from Zihwatanejo
Got the Fish on the surf, about 35 miles south of OPuerto Vallarta, Mexico. I don't think this is a blue trevally, i saw a few blu travally in Hawaii this last xmas while i was spear fishing, they seemed to be brighter in color, and had more fins. In any event this fish surely did put up a good fight. Scratch the h@ck out of my Luhr Jensen Crockadile Spoon, cut up the refective coating on the spoon. Its a different expierence having to fight a fish and having waves rolling over your head. There was only one thought in my mind, " Ive gotta land this su@ker!!!!".

Re: Surf Pics from Zihwatanejo
It was a blast! Brad took some videos with his digital that are a crack up.
We'd hook up on a line burning Jack that would usually peel at least a hundred yards of line on the strike, meanwhile the next set of waves would hit, 4-5 feet over our heads, getting washed into the rocks while trying to keep a tight line...it was a clinic.
What really impressed me, was the locals fishing with hand lines. They used 15-20 lb line wrapped on spools of wood and would play the fish by changing the angle of the wood handle. I watched three guys land three fish togther while about 6 guys helped herd then tail the fish. Those guys were fishing for food for their families.
They were using cast nets for catching bait. We tried to buy some bait from them but they wouldn't take any money, they just gave us bait.
We gave all our fish to our new buddy Javier (pictured with Keith), who delivered a fish to his Mom's house, sister's house, and neighbor's and was tickled.
Javier drug together some pieces of wood to make a little "Pilappa" with palm fronds for shade for us. It came in handy for me when I sprained an ankle the second day.
Those people who had very little were very accomodating and incredibly firendly to us. Made us think of the difference when you walk down to a river bank around here where locals are fishing. What a difference!
Great trip!
