Default Today's Duckin'.

My son did not have school today so I decided to take hime out for a hunt. It was cold and wet on the way out this morning so I did not end up going as far as I had originally planned. I set up in a closer area to keep my son warm and happy.

For the first hour and a half birds would come by but would not commit. I finally decided to move the blind. I only moved ten yards and did not move any decoys, so they were seeing something on the blind. That was all it took. Birds were finishing with no calling. I should of had way more birds then I came home with but poor shooting prevented that.

I had a fun day with my son and he enjoyed himself. I also got one of my favorite birds. The first time I had shot one on this side of the state.

And a couple pics from a previous hunt.

Nice gadwall. They get thick in the cypress swamps in the south. They really like the duckweed that floats on top.

Thumbs up Re: Today's Duckin'.

Great job Mike, getting the kids introduced early will set your checkbook back in the future but it will be well worth it.

Yeah, my daughter asked me before that trip if we were taking the "little gun". That would be the 410 in the gun safe that she knows is for her when she is old enough. The plan is to get her shooting it this spring/summer.

nice gaddy. i shot one a few years ago at SI, a nice drake like yours. To me they look like a pintail and widgeon cross. Took me a few minutes to figure out what it was.
