Default 6/0 Hook In Finger

In my lifetime I've had broken bones, deep cuts with knives & broadheads, and dislocated body parts........painful yes, but the other day, while releasing a fish, without my gaff, Rod, I miss my gaff, a 6/0 barbed hook pierced through my index finger, hit the bone and curved upward, becoming completely imbeded.......you say no big deal? Well, the fish still attached to the lower hook decided to make a run for the bottom, this is where the real pain began. My cutting dikes were on the other side of the boat, out of reach, so I tried to guide the fish around the stern, grab the dikes and now the fish begins to spin circles! This fish was completely going crazy, ripping deep into the flesh of my finger and moving that dang hook in every which direction in my muscle tissue. I was finally able to cut the line between the two hooks and look at the damage. All I can say is gruesome. The second terrible part is the hook was barbed, as I was halibut fishing in shallow water off Lookout. Point of the story, you never want this to happen to you! It was so painful, words don't do justice. I had to have x-rays before the hook was removed. The hook was removed successfully, although I was real close to causing some major damage. Be careful out there!

Been there done that. Hated it. OUCH!!!!!!! Fortunatly my fish hit the road before doing to much damage. Managed to have Perry cut the hook shank and I pulled her on through with my pliers. Felt real good with saltwater on it too! Still got the entrance and exit wound to prove it. Been 3 or 4 weeks and it's almost healed and gone.
