Supersticious? What do you think?
So I got a gazzilion birds on my fields and I call duckcrazy101 an tell him that if wants to come over and shoot a limit of geese to haul over here. No dekes, just his gun and permit. All he has to do is park and run out to the field and join me.
I shoot a couple of geese and wait on shooting more because he is coming. So duckcrazy101 arrives and we walk out to the blind together.
Here's where it gets interesting. He grabs his game strap (neck carrier) and says, "this trip is going to get the bad luck off this thing."
I ask him, "What do you mean by that?"
He says, "everytime I bring this thing out we get skunked, my friends tell me to leave it home but today I'm going to show them it's not the strap"
I say "OK."
Four more hours till close and no more geese decoy into my field.
What do you guys think he should do with that strap?

Re: Supersticious? What do you think?
It may not be the strap. It could have been how he rolled out of bed or he started brushing his teeth before he put the cap back on the toothpaste. Maybe he put his seat belt on before he started his rig. Did he put his socks on and then his shoes or one sock and one shoe. I would burn the strap just to be safe.

Re: Supersticious? What do you think?
I would have a priest perform an exorcism. Tell the priest to bring the Holy water, purple scarf, rituals book, the whole nine yards.
If that doesn't work, call a Rabbi.
If that doesn't work, call Miss Cleo.
Before he goes through all of the trouble, have your friend throw the thing away. If he gets home from the dump and he finds it sitting on his bed, be afraid. BE VERY AFRAID.
Oh, another thing you can do is call upon Jopu. Build a shrine and offer Jopu cigars and rum to take the curse off of the strap. Just remember, it is very bad to drink Jopu's rum. It is VERY BAD.

Burn it!!!!
Be very careful if you see a game strap for sale in the classifieds.
John
Sounds like the geese are starting to use your fields now, that is a very good thing.

Oh cr&p, as we were picking up I noticed he left it in the blind and I grabbed it (without gloves) and tossed it to him. I said something like this is the last thing I want left in my fields!
Is it contagious, air born? What do I need to do to get the bad luck off my hand?

Yeah it's kind of like the golf superstition that says that you never pick up a discarded Tee on the Tee box. It could have been the cause of some poor unfortunate souls wicked slice. If you touch it I'd recommend scubbing your hands with some type of bleech, gasoline an acid mixture. Other than that BURN IT!

OH NO! That's bad! Very bad! I think your only hope is to wrap a known good luck piece around the hand and sleep with it on. Was it your shooting hand?

Re: Supersticious? What do you think?
My take on this is that, as in ballgames, you MAKE your own luck. (Unless the strap was in blaze orange or some such.) Birds can have funny habits and can decide to leave for any number of reasons. Ya can't blame a strap for getting there a little late!

I’m not superstitious. Superstition brings me nothing but bad luck.

Re: Supersticious? What do you think?
I got a new game strap last year. Had the same problem for several hunts. I was bad about remembering it in the beginning and days I forgot, we'd have good hunts. Days I brought it, bad hunts. Buddies would ask me to leave it in the car. Eventually, though, I wore it down and now it doesn't seem to matter. Just keep dragging it along. Eventually, the streak will get busted.
