Default Popeye gets two cherries on his Sunday......
Well it finally happened, Mr. Fisherman gets into his first Tuna!
Thanks to Popeye and Julie on the Julie Rose III.
Another lucky first timer got one too. He traveled all the way from out East.
It was pretty scratchy fishing with about 5 drive bys and three lost at the boat. The fish must have been keen on what the mission was. Oh well, Sunday trips are tough enough without a huge pile of fish to cark.
He made me take my fish with me and even talked me through carking it. I'm told that I'm a reel Tuna fisherman now.
Thanks Bruce and Julie, you are the greatest.
I don't have any pictures but Julie took a few and I hope to see them soon.
By the way, I got my first on a stand up rod! It was great. I had one up to the boat and it came unbuttoned. :whazzup: I had good pressure on the fish and a bend in the rod and it came off anyway. I'm still confused over that one.
It was a great day to be at sea. We saw Hump Back Whales and a few others that we were not able to identify for certain. Bruce got to see one broach all the way up out of the water. We also saw Dahl Porpoises
A day I will not soon forget. I think everyone aboard had a good idea of what I thought about catching my first Tuna.
Thank you guys! I hope to be able to fish with you again sometime soon....

Hey Ray, you said "I'm still confused over that one." Nothing to be confused about. There are 2 kinds of fish: those that are meant to be caught, and those that are not meant to be caught. You simply hooked the latter. Had nothing to do with how you held the rod; I'm sure it was perfect technique!

Congrats on the Tuna.... appears Popeye and MisBehaving must be having some sorta challange match going on as both have been doing a bang up job of getting newbies into TUNA this summer...

Popeye got me mine... Puts any other fishing to shame...
