On Saturday I took a friend of mine out that hadn't been out in ten years or so. He (and I) had a blast. We took off out of Garibaldi at 6:00am and dropped the crab pots in north of the jetty. We headed out to 190' of water off Rockaway and wound up going 4 for 6 on Hatchery-to-Natives. We limited by 9:00. Had a few nice crab and headed in. He needed to get back by early afternoon for family obligations, so it all worked out great for him.
Sunday, I took my wife out. We didn't go out till 10:30 but had a ton of action. We got one at 200' off Nehalem. We were then be tormented by a Blue Shark which we hooked up with twice. At that point (high slack) we headed in to fish the mouth of the Nehalem. To our surprise, the action was much hotter there than out at 200'. We hooked 8, only two of which were Hatchery fish. We had several other strikes, and lost our limit at the boat on our last herring. The action there was fantastic. We fished back and forth, NE to SW, in 80-100' of water just north of the entrance bouy.
Hated to leave but wished we had gone there from the get-go. Anyway, I hear it's unbeleivable up off the Columbia as well....Might head there tomorrow, weather and work permitting.
My favorite time of year is here....Football, LAte summer/Fall Salmon fishing, and of course, Baseball as we head toward the playoffs and world series....who needs the Blazers?
