Question for the mechanics
O.k. I thought I'd ask you guys/gals before I tear into this and probably end up taking it to the shop today.
Used the boat all day yesterday for tuna with no problems. Get the boat in the marina and while loading the boat onto the trailer I notice that I lost thrust in the outdrive past about 1200 RPM. I assumed that perhaps the feature on my outdrive that allows it to "break away" must have been somehow engaged but today after re-launching and lowering and lifting the outdrive I still have the problem. I have great thrust on the intial engagement of the shifter but as I increase power and reach the 1200 RPM range the motor revs but the prop slows, or at least it doesn't increase thrust anymore.
Now that I'm home I'm planning to check the fluids but can anyone maybe point me in the right direction to start looking for the problem?

Do you have an extra prop? Sounds like the rubber clutch thingy in the prop may be spun. I had this happen after I hit a log in the river with my old boat. It would get up to a certain speed and then start spinning.

I'd say PBR and Popye are on the right track. The rubber bushing acts like a shear pin in case you hit somthing, there is probably just enough bushing left to hold it up to 1200 RPM. At least it's much cheaper than a prop.

Can't disagree with anyone here on this Rod. It sounds like you spun the rubber hub. I don't know about Force motors but the ones I have worked on are simple to fix, if you have access to a press. Press the old ruber out and clean out the bore. Take the new rubber out of the freezer and press it in. Good as new.
First check to see if we're right with your spare prop.

It's hard to do a visual on this problem unless it's totaly wasted.

Rod, "ditto". You probably spun a hub. If so, a prop shop can replace them. If its spun badly you can turn it by hand sometimes. Try another prop if possible.
Shallow ramps at low tide, sand bars, etc. are great places for accomplishing this. :shocked:
You have a volvo out drive and I don't think there is anything in there that might slip ( to the best of my knowledge.) They are gear to gear, to shaft. Gear or shaft breaks, they don't go.

That's got to be the problem. Does anyone have a good prop repair shop I could go to that you recommend?
Unfortunately the only spare that came with the boat is a clockwise prop and the one that's on it is a counter clockwise prop. There is a way on the outdrive to change over to clockwise so I think I'll do that and see what happens.

When you put on the other prop, just remember reverse is forward.

Ampro out in Clackamas is a pretty decent shop, they have fixed props for my dad and I at a reasonable rate, fairly quickly.
They are located just off of I-205 at the Estacada/ Mt. Hood exit on Hwy 212. 11497 Hwy 212. 503-665-9013.

Apparently I can just move the shift linkage from one side of the gear to the other and it's all done. Then I just need to go thru the shift adjustments, if needed.

Waterdog is right again. Your lower unit works the same gear ratio either in forward or reverse.
I wouldn't do it long term but it'll be ok for a test run. What boat are we talking about here, the Trophy or the dory?

I agree, sounds like you spun a hub.
We saw a bunch of floating logs and sea crap in the green 60 degree water for a while coming back in. Recall any slight hit coming back in yesterday?
I'd also recommend another shop, they've done good by me.
