Default A "Leatherneck" gets salty!

Took my friend Leatherneck and his boy Joel into the big blue this AM in search of some hard fighting Coho.

This was Leatherneck's first trip with me in the Salt, and I could tell he was a little leary.

We motored across a nice flat bar and out to some 180' water. Within minutes of the gear hitting the water Joel had a nice keeper in the boat, Joel's first Coho!

The action slowed to a dead stop for almost 2 hours as we trolled deeper, shallower, faster, slower, you get the picture.

When we finally found a actively feeding school the south wind started picking up and I knew we were going to have a wet ride back. We stuck it out a little longer and only had a couple of Drive By's but no hook ups.

So we reeled them in and headed for the beach, all said, we had a total of 2 keeper Coho to show for a couple of hours on the Big Blue.

Maybe a little salt is getting into ol' Leatherneck's blood because he asked if I would be up for another ocean trip next Monday.

Good job Joel on your first Coho and Ocean fishing trip

I just had the pleasure in taking someone out in the ocean that has never been before in his life. He was a little reserved at first but loosened right up when the poles started to buck. He reeled in probably 15 fish and was talking about "the next" trip before we were back at the ramp. Kudoos to you for putting a little salt on his sleave

Had a great time today. My boy had a even better time. He doesn't know what pucker factor is yet. Was I leary, you bet. The only time I have ever felt safe in the ocean was when the Navy boys let us jarheads cruise with them in the big blue. Andy's 21ft supervee handled the sloppy stuff much better than I thought it would.
