Metolius Archery (Late Tag)
Does anyone have it? Has anyone drawn the "impossible" in the past? Would love to hear a story and maybe see a pic or two.

Re: Metolius Archery (Late Tag)
for the 3rd time in teh past 6 years my buddy has drawn a late season metolius Anterless tag. He lives in here in central oregon so easy for him to get out there. This year he has seen hardly any deer, does or bucks. He did say in all the area that he is wandering and the area he hunts is about 20 sq mile, and not much of it have we not covered, there are ATV tracks all over. He ran into the guys this last weekend and they said they have been out exploring the area. They were talking about a wolf pack siting in the area also, plus several Cougars. So no where near the deer, but the weather is warmer then normal also, so might not have coem down that low yet.

Re: Metolius Archery (Late Tag)
Just remember you don't have the whole Metolius Unit to hunt in, the area around Jack Creek is out of bounds if I'm not mistaken...........Ray

Re: Metolius Archery (Late Tag)
I highly doubt there is a wolf let alone a pack in the Metolius unit...

Re: Metolius Archery (Late Tag)
I have been seeing several nice bucks up on Green Ridge. Sunday afternoon we saw a very nice 5x7 with a dozen does, two nice forks and a spike lee. We were out on the ridge that heds towards Billy Chinook. It might be worth checking out for those of you with the tag. By the way, next year the tag is valid for the entire unit!!!! Good luck.

Re: Metolius Archery (Late Tag)
My Dad and I have it. Know one guy that took a 26" pig.
It's been tough. Passed up several 4 points that were ear width & heavy. Several 3x4 that were at/beyond the ears. We have 3 solid days left. Maybe we have been too picky.

Re: Metolius Archery (Late Tag)
This hunt has been crazy. We have over 14 days in so far. My best day, I saw 26 bucks (10 were 4 points). Crawled for 1.5 hours to within 35 yards of a black horned, 26-27" 4 point. Doe got me. Drew and ranged him as he was walking twice (35 yards, then 48 yards), just had no shot. He looked as big as a spike elk.
We have been holding out for 4x4 beyond ears. Passed several in retrospect we probably should have shot. May have tag soup, but we had high standards. Now we each will shoot the next nice 3 point or better.
Not sure which is worse, getting skunked or punching an average buck.
I have lots of video of nice bucks. Will do a more detailed post later.

Re: Metolius Archery (Late Tag)
If you have been getting into that many quality bucks; I would hold out and possibly go skunked. That would just be me. Meat in the freezer is nice also. Good luck

If you have had opportunities at Mr. Big............then that is all you can ask for...............I would at least bring some meat home if possible. Good Luck. Cant wait for a detailed post, photos, and/or video. Wheels.
