Default HELP! Birdhunting around Bend/Redmond

Hey All,

My wife recently promised my father in law that I would take him bird hunting this weekend for his birthday. I guess she forgot I have blacktail to chase. All of the bird hunting I have done over east has been OVER EAST, in other words, Burns and beyond. I am hoping that someone knows somewhere decent to get out and at least run the dog with my father in law. I dont need four star shooting, just an experience. I would like to keep it close so I can get back over the hill and hit the McKenzie unit for some blacktails. PM's are preffered. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks in advance I-Fishers!

A couple of fairly close by places would be the Crooked River canyon below Bowman Dam, upstream from Prineville (some chukar and quail around and also ducks on the river) or the Deschutes Canyon around Maupin.

Like you said, you won't find 4 star shooting at either but both can be nice places to 'hunt'. Good luck.

Crooked River National Grasslands...call the HQ for specifics. No, it's not 4-star much, much less. If it were good I wouldn't have posted it on the Internet. But hey it's a place to run your dog though and heck lighten could strike and ya might find a quail, not likely.

i have a bunch of quail running around my house but my wife doesnt' even let me hunt them. The quail come right up and drink out of my labs water bowl.
