Default Depoe, Bay Tuna...Sunday report..

Well today was a long day searching for tuna.

Many of the friends were out today, so we covered the water pretty good. Also several of Newports charter fleet.

We headed for 61, and released the hounds about 28 miles out,,,, picked one here and there, but no big numbers. I think we only had 5 when we started in ( about 39 miles out). We picked up 7 on the way back, so we had a grand total of 12.

I will let the others relay their scores because I am not sure what the tally was.

Sounds like a good trip WAK. 12 ain't bad. Enjoyed our trip the other day. Went out thursday and limited in 20 min. One small nook. Heard you did pretty good at the pile. Was the ocean good today? Enjoy your vacation.

Wak'em.......I went out Saturday and covered 140 miles on the water and got a grand total of 5. I heard that Assassin got 10 and not sure what WP got, but it was higher than both of our totals. The fish we found were past the 125 line about 45 miles out. The 61 spot was cold and we found our warmest water about 45 10.00, which was about 63 degrees, but there was no one home. No sharks, no weed lines and no good temp breaks. I heard that J.T. on the Tackle Buster found some today (Sunday)at 34 miles and he had 14 or so by 11:00am. I hope to try again on Tuesday, hopefully with better results. Thanks for the post.

Sounds pretty scratchy yet..I hope they consolidate soon. I am not sure if I will get out this week or not...5 days on the ocean takes its toll and my knees are aching! You guys keep up the good work so I will know where to go when I can get out again!

Our boat is loaded and waiting for our departure to tuna town. We are leaving out of Newport in the AM. I am soo ready for the line screaming runs that everyone is talking about. Thanks Harry's for being open on a Sunday for the gear.

Took Gregotis up on invitation while at ifishstock. Had to fish hard but did manage to coax 10 tuna to the box by early afternoon. Did have some luck in area being tacked by charter Tackle Buster. Shadowed/shadowed by Corrirod and Bait O Eggs much of the day. Thanks again Greg for the invite and a great day. It was a blast--screaming reels, and the end of my tuna virginity(at my age!). And of course the wife had a terrific time too.

John - fished that lure all day and took 2 tuna on it. The purple/black(pirate?) was the hot ticket for us today. Thanks again.

BOE - Smack talk?

Rod - Nice meeting you.

Marty,
To late to give a report, I will do that tomorrow. I was fishing close to Tacklebuster today, had a dozen. Right down the 45 line to about 35 miles. Got into there late, just about the time they quit biting.

Going to bed,
Jerry

I think the water changed some Marty...we had weeds all day. Also when running in about 23 miles out there were more birds sitting around than I saw all day....Hmmmm? ( kinda wonder).

I may go again Tuesday...yet to be decided...

Prabably will depend on Nancys report.

Rod the pictures I took on the digital of your boat were poor. I will get the other pictures developed in day or so.

I was out with the pack on Sunday. It was real spotty on where they were at.

We had 63 Degree water at 61Degrees but no one was home. Hit a some about 2 miles due NW of 61 degrees, then got into some doubles and triples just inside of 61 on our way back in about 24-28 miles off shore.

Total count for the day was 9 TUNA.

Things down south were no better on Sunday. We ran out 32 miles, 63.5 deg water...but it was a graveyard. No birds, no sharks, no nothin. Lost one and caught one...and nailed three coho.

Great water, just no fish.

Marty, I think my boat was opposite of most. We caught the majority of our fish right in the morning. I think everyone else did better in the afternoon.

We started off gangbusters with a triple then a double. The rest of the day was scratch fishing with just 4 more landed, 2 lost right at the boat(one which was very nice sized), and several drive by's and a few that came unbuttoned on the retrieve.

It was a great day for wildlife though. I got to see my first wild dolphin(dahl porpoise) do a jump and flip. We saw a huge school of porpoise, as in hundreds and hundreds, jumping and skimming along the surface. We had several that jumped about 5 ft. out of the water right in front of the boat! We saw several sharks and even a couple small pods of pilot whales on the way back in.

Great day with great crew! Thanks BOE!

Wak, I just got home so I'll take a look at the pics later and post them up here!

Marty, I got out late on Sunday and decided to go north of the 45 line. Got up to high, about 45 07. The Tackle Buster got into them on the 45 line. I tried to run back to him and the Blitz but it was too sloppy running into it so I fished back. When I finally got to them there was a good bite going, then it just stopped. They were just starting to bite again when we left around 4PM.
Tuna clones, zucchini and a good trap bite when we arrived, Only one fish on a board, they wouldn't bite at the boat, but I could see the fish around the boat on a stop. They wouldn't eat a trap however? Got two later on Rapalas. Just scratch fishing.
N45 01' 41.8"
W124 43' 21.3"
Started catching fish here.
Thanks to the Tackle Buster for giving out his numbers on channel 78.
Today a friend told me that a boat from Newport had 40 Saturday and 60 Sunday? Trying to get his numbers and will post if I do.
Looks like the wind might have come up some today? Up to 20 at Stonewall.

Good luck,
Jerry

While out fishing in the ocean, a boat came out of nowhere, This boat was running well beyond a safe speed. I have heard of this boat, but have never had an encounter with it until yesterday.

Some wild eyed guy jumps back of the cabin and starts taking pictures of us. I get a quick photo him before he took off like a rocket. Anybody know who this wild man is?

hope you like the pics wak'm

Something to think about.........when I fished in San Diego many years ago the conclusion of most tuna fisherman was that on full moons the bite was always slow in the mornings (up feeding all night) and the afternoon was when things would heat up again. Did you guys catch your fish in the am or the pm or did it make a difference. My fish came in the afternoon.

I had to wake my crew up in Newport so we got a bit of a late start.

Started near 61 degrees and it was scratchy at first. Picked up a few here and there trolling out a little further, then some more sporadic bites late a.m. and shortly after noon. Ended up a bit north of 45 and 124 43 in 63F water with 12 Tuna! in the box.

All but one were caught on rod and reel, and most on green/yellow or purple/black/orange clones. One busted off a hand line (crew was sleeping) and lost one at the boat.

Also had a blast with all the Dahl's, a few pods of whales, and a few other "unidentifiable others".

Here's a pic of an ititial double, as I was taking the photo it turned into a triple!

http://www.ifish.net/uploads/515800223.jpg

The photo quality is a bit lame, pardon the lack of experience reducing file sizes. I'll get the hang of it.

Check out the blood being thrashed from the dead one dunking his head in the orange bucket -- ain't that great. Love that Tuna! shuffle and their slapping death song.

Okay, one more, a shot of the trophies out in that beautiful blue water.

http://www.ifish.net/uploads/562801223.jpg

Thanks a ton guys for my maiden run with the Dogs, what a blast. After eating a pretty good sized loin this evening for dinner, I'm WAY hooked.

How come the pictures didn't come into my post and all I got was URL links? Any ideas what I'm doing wrong with picture inserts?

Thanks for the help.
