Default Newport Salmon Slay 8/10

Man what a beautiful day and awesome flat ocean Slept in and didn't get to the ramp until 10:00. We went out 12 miles and absolutely hammered the salmon. I had my wife, neighbor, and his son with me and put 8 coho in the box that averaged 10 pounds. We got one that was a hair over 12. All fish were cought between 8 to 14 pulls on spoons, hootchies, and rsk's behind a fish flash and diver. Released a bunch to boot and was off the water by 3:00. Nothing like sharing a beautiful ocean with family and friends.

How long do you expect Newport Salmon fishing to last or be "hot".
We have a charter trip planned with some freinds next Sunday. Half day Salmon, half day bottom fishing. Hoping to have a great day! -Steve

The place is on fire. I would say it will be red hot until the closure. I have crossed that bar 12 times this year. I have put boat limits fishing an average of three rods per trip on board the last 10 trips. The water temp is warm off the beach so the fish are pretty close. I have an area due west in 220 feet of water that has been kicking out boat limits like a trout pond. You guys should have no problem punching tags on the charters. Good luck and post your report

Taklebuster, How long does it take you to get to Newport from Sheridan? And what route do you take. I live in Newberg and would like to find a good place to take my three boys out of. Mom is a bit skeptical about Garibaldi.

Takes me an hour and 30 in the am from Mac. I go right down Hwy 18 to 101. It's 73 miles from my house to the Marina.

You could save yourself 15 miles and put in at Depoe Bay. Just remember to hail folks on vhf channel 80 as you depart and enter.
Great place to fish from, and much closer.

HR- I can make it from my house to the launch in about an hour and 10 minutes. I go take 18 past the Casino and up through the mountains past Lincoln City and Depoe.

WildHawg- You guys can have Depoe. I like the parking and facilities much better at South Beach. Well worth the 15 minute extra drive for me.
