Default BEautiful day on the big blue...

Went out of Newprt today with Mr. Fisherman, and my buddy Duff, he is not an ifisher yet but soon will be.
I must first thank Ray for an awesome day on the water, you are an ambasadeur of fishing. We started off about 0700 heading for the ranch.
We made it about 20 miles out and we get a call on the radio about fish being caught elsewhere so we head there.
The drift was weird today as we were drifting north. First drift I hook up with a shaker but hand the rod off to the Virgin, popped his cherry on a junior.
Next Ray's rod goes offhands it to me, (thank you for the hand off ray) nice 34 incher.
Now it's Rays turn, 48 for ray.
Well after that it was a little quiet for about 10 whole minutes, and ray is in the cabin, his rod takes a dive and Duff jumps on it he tries to hand it to ray but oh no none of that, newbie gets the fish. After 25 minutes and some aching arms and a missed gaff, BFB comes into the boat with a harpoon in it. It was 58 inches and weighed in at 86 Lbs.
New Sea Lion record.
A big Thank you goes out to Ray, and the Sea Lion.
Hey Ray just remember if it is to big use 2 gaffs...

86 pounds! Way to go!

Sure good to have Mr Fisherman back from Ireland.

Did you get him to hold up the two biggest ones (one in each hand) for a pic?

Tule, you're a doomed man now that you're hanging around with these Salty Dogs. Does your wife know the peril you are in?

Yes, Skein she is starting to see what it is all about. And she is not very happy about it though. I got her to agree that i need a boat of my own.
She is still fuming that i ruined my jeans and i did that for a reason, we were at fisherman's on friday and i was looking at fishing bib's and she said no, well when i got home i think she has changed her mind. Ray will post the pics and i look like a Carking master with blood from my neck to toes. I told her of the invites i have had and she is just shaking her head. I can't imagine what i will be like once i catch a TUNA, because i am a wrecked man after the halibut.
And no we didn't get a picture of ray holding up the big boy, I am 6'4" 270 and it was all i could do to hold it up. I carried it from the boat to the cleaning station and i was struggling with it, and i am pretty strong.

It would have been no problem as I have held up my share of big fish (Thanks John, Bruce, Dan, Rick, Kurt etc.) but the spotlight deserved to be on Duff.
He is ruined for life catching his first keeper Halibut (86# 58 inches) in shallow water with only 10 oz weight on a Salmon rod! He should just quit now and write up the story for the grand kids.
I wish we would have got a picture of him with the fish at the boat. Oh well.
I have tried to upload the pics I did take but there have been problems. I am not new to uploading pics and haven't been able to figure it out... Maybe soon. In any case I have emailed them to you Chris, so you can share them with Duff.
It was a pleasure to have you and Duff on Sea Lion Chris. I hope you both will join me again soon.
