No Longer a Virgin
  I am proud to say that I am no longer a Tuna Virgin. Thursday night about 9:30 PM, Mel (Miss B Haven) calls and asks if I want to go tuna fishing in the morning. He says I would need to be at Warrenton by 4:00 AM. You mean you want me to get 3 hours sleep, get up at 2:00 AM and drive to Warrenton? Yes he says. I jumped at the chance. We left the boat basin at 4:30 and headed out. The river was calm and the bar was smooth, that would change after we passed the CR buoy. The ocean was a little lumpy and the wind was probably around 15 knots. The ocean stayed sloppy until we got around the CR buoy on our way back.
After we got to the 61 degree water the lines went in the water. The first hit was on a hand line and it was gone as soon as it hit. We lost the first 6 fish and I was beginning to wonder if I would stay a virgin until another day. Then we got a double on and landed both fish. Mel was right, I would loose my cherry on that trip. We ended up the day with 8 fish for 3 people. Not bad considering the way it started.
I was really impressed by the way a tuna can hit the lure and take off on a long distance run, the reel screaming all the way. I would take a 25 pound tuna over a 25 pound salmon any day of the week.
I was going to go to IfishStock today but I was busy canning tuna. I even had some on the barby after I got done canning. Mmmmmmm Mmmmmmm good.
Thanks again Mel for the wonderful time and nice company.

Re: No Longer a Virgin
How far out did you guys go? Are they starting to come back in closer. I was 30 miles out of Till. bay today, and I could see the water color changing. I was also in 62 degrees. Is this right or do I need to check the temp gauge on the FF?

Re: No Longer a Virgin
We went southwest from the CR buoy. Mel said we were out about 40 miles at the most. I don't think we were 40 miles offshore, but that distance from the Columbia Entrance. It was a different feeling for me not running the boat. I didn't have to worry about anything except trying to catch fish. The fishing wasn't hot and heavy, just enough to keep us interested. And yes, I am hooked on tuna fishing. The fish just need to come in closer for me to feel comfortable taking my boat out. I need a larger gas tank. Maybe I need a larger boat. Mel's 34 footer felt good and my butt felt real comfortable in the captains chair. Don't tell the wife I said that.

Hehehe! Doomed. I tell ya, you're doomed!
Did I tell you about my new boat? The one I bought so we could go further and further off-shore....
What kind are you going to get? You can take that money you had set aside for a motorhome and fix yourself right up. Popeye has a 40' Tolly he might sell you. Hehehe.

Re: No Longer a Virgin
Yes there's nothing like the way your reel sings to you when a TUNA hits it.
Way to go on the cherrie braking.

Re: No Longer a Virgin
George - it was a pleasure having you on the boat, you're great company! You have great stamina too esp. for having an hour or two of sleep. What isn't told above is that Kamloops and I kept letting George play the first fish to get one under his belt!
Now George- about those 6 fish in a row you lost!
More serious now, first time I've had the experiance of Tuna lite hitting or short biting or whatever. Man... we lost more fish than we landed Friday. Then Sunday we boated over 30 and I think we may have lost 3 or 4 total!
Thanks for the company TV!
