Tasered Mulie
What a story.
Sheriff's deputies Taser mule deer buck
Posted on Nov. 5
By TRISTAN SCOTT of the Missoulian
Missoula County sheriff’s deputies turned a Taser on a mule deer buck Tuesday in order to free the animal from a rope swing near Lolo.
“We were able to avoid having to euthanize it, so it worked out pretty well,” said Lt. Rich Maricelli.
Shortly after 5 a.m., Neva Larson heard her dogs barking outside. Upon investigating, she discovered the large buck running in circles around the tree, its antlers tangled in a length of rope.
“It was a rope that the kids had been swinging on and he got tangled up so he couldn’t get loose,” said Larson, who lives just south of Lolo.
“He was running around and going this way and that. I got the dogs inside, but I didn’t know what to do after that.”
Several deputies arrived on the scene and, after some deliberation, decided to use a Taser on the buck, incapacitating it while another deputy cut the animal loose.
“So they ended up using a Taser on him,” Larson said. “The one guy shot him with a Taser and (the deer) just dropped and the other guy cut the rope off and (the deer) jumped up and ran away. The deer was about the size of an average-sized man. He still had rope in his antlers but not enough to do any harm. It was pretty slick.”
Grabbed from here.

Re: Tasered Mulie
Huh.....that's cool. Maybe they start using those Taser Shotgun Slugs on problem bears.
Might make them RETHINK the easy meal concept.
Can't help bu think that associating humans w/ getting your butt SHOCKED, might not be a bad thing.

Sounds like a good idea! Bears are notably smarter than Mule Deer. I think they probably WOULD learn from the experience

Yep, so long as you aren't the guy on the other end of the taser 15 feet away from the bear when he gets up all kind of mad at the world. With as thick of fur as bears have I don't think I'd want to be the first guy to test how it works on bears.

Re: Tasered Mulie
Still a clever way of avoiding having to kill it.

Re: Tasered Mulie
That happened in Canby last year during the rut when a buck got caught in a yard swing. Seems like an effective way of getting them loose without hurting them or someone getting hurt.

Re: Tasered Mulie
I know how that buck feels. In my line of work we carry tazers and we had the option to get tazed while training to carry. I did, and if I ever get tazed again things are not going good because I will never voluntier to do it again. But the good thing is when the 5 seconds are up its done. No lasting affects but still made a lasting impression.

That's awesome! Before I put the e-collar on my dog I tested it myself at full volume. Can't imagine gettin' hit by a taser designed for taking a dude off his feet.

yes, 12ga version available now.
Man could you imagine a street sweeper filled w/ those!
I can see the headlines now.... HOME INVASION RATES HIT NEW LOWS.
Man I want some.
HUh....I just realized shoot and release is now possible.
Ethical hunting raised to new levels. PETA initiatives probably already in the works.
Or this for Bill Monroe's Outdoor Column.....
"Dave Smith posts record #'s of collar data from Live Dusky Geese.....10 Dusky's Shot this week alone."
Better not laugh though......I'm sure Dave could do it.

Wow, I must be smarter than I thought because if I were in a training class for tazers, I'd pretty much believe them when they said it could incapacitate me and I wouldn't need them to "show me".
As Ron White would say, "I've got a lot of "quit" in me."

Re: Tasered Mulie
I would absolutely volunteer to try the 12GA version on a bear. Kenai/Russian River confluence would be perfect testing grounds. Of course, that shotgun would be loaded: Taser, Slug, Slug, Slug, Slug. I don't think they require a plug for Bear tasering yet...

Re: Tasered Mulie
I could've used a taser on this bull I saw over the weekend. Would've been a lot easier to tell if he had all three points if he were just laying down for a few seconds! TOC.

Re: Tasered Mulie
Yep this will be the new ethical question of 2009 should I tazer first to count points or just shoot
World record elk tazered 3 time to varify point total before being shot...

Been there, took the 5 second ride. Never, ever EVER again will I do that. Sad part is to carry it, we are required to get hit with it. I took the probes being shot at my back, and then the 5 seconds. Nice part is, once it's over, it's over, no side effects.
Now getting hit with pepper spray / OC...that's a different story...i'll take the taser over that any day
