Default The good with the bad!

Well,
I have benn very lucky this year. I have had good counts of albacore and the salmon and halibut have been more than adequate. I have had a chance to share my joys and successes. Today was the fishes turn to boast! Left at 0600 for tuna from Depoe Bay...the ocean was fabulous! As we got further out it got bumpier and bumpier. The wind was rising and....no fish! We had one drive by and had a clone come off a hand line (fish??) and that was all when we decided that it was not fun. Ran verrrrrry slowly back towardf "easy" salmon trolling. The winds and seas got better the closer we got to Depoe. At about 420 feet of water we dropped our trolling gear and continued east. A couple of drive buys and released 9 or 10 native silvers. No chinooks or hatchery silvers until mid afternoon when I finaly got a small silver. Enough. Called it and went home with my tail tucked between my legs...the mighty fisherman struck out! 3 rods, 9 hours, one small silver...good thing there is tomorrow!! I will be going out of Newport for the pile and halibut/chinook. If I am successful early and the weather cooperates, I will visit my favorite spot for tuna  Hope to see you all out there or at the docks. 78 is the place to be
Your humbled boat steerer, WP

It happens to the best of 'em WP!
As an outfitter for 15 years, I had a little experience in the humbling "hero to goat syndrome".
I've caught an awful lotta nice fish in my lifetime--but it seems every time I get too confident, or heaven forbid--I get a little cocky  , I get brought back down to earth. Just ask Ugly Green--he's seen both facets of my mojo!!
I still maintain that the motto "fish fear me" was coined by me when I was a wee lad whackin' the crud out of summer steelies on the Umpqua . Dad said you're brimgin' home a bunch of fish son--and I looked him squarely in the eye and said "fish fear me Dad"...and that aint no BS!!!!!!!
WOOPS!!!!! There goes my next fishing trip

I feel your pain Dave. The yellow boat is almost a year old and has yet to get skunked. Come close a few times, but always managed to pull out a win in the 4th quarter. My worst day yet, late june shad fishing the Coquille. The boat above me had 14 fish, the boat below had 11, I had none. It got to the point where every time they'd hook a fish, they'd look at me and shrug their shoulders. They felt my pain. Eventually, they all left...only me and the yellow boat remained. Just before dark, I finally hooked a fish, only to lose it at the boat. Argh!

Next cast, FISH ON! Boated the small shad, pulled anchor and went home. My work was done....

I know the day is coming, I just hope it isn't tomorrow.
