Think twice or make sure the outfit is providing a warranty. I moved into my house last year and the main bathroom was tub-fitted with a liner and walls. The caulking broke free a little between the walls and tub liner. Within no time there was a great deal of water between the liner and the old existing tub. The outfit was installed by the previous home owner so I didn't bother trying to get them to warranty their work. I tore it out and remodeled.

The liners are glued in place with giant thick strips of silicone based product about 1" wide and 1/4 to 1/2" thick.

We too are in the middle of a DIY bathroom remodel. House was built in the 70's and the bathroom door is too narrow to get the current shower size in plus I don't think they make that size shower any more. Was thinking of doing a marble slab type OR those refitters. Solid marble for the walls shouldn't be more expensive than what you guys are quoting for the alternative.

Sorry...forgot..you are doing TUB and shower. The marble thing probably doesn't apply. We're just doing a shower.

I just got done re-doing mine today. I was looking at a 1 piece tub and surround, also considered a 2 piece. After learning that I would have to gut the entire bathroom to studs and perhaps remove the siding and 2 wall studs to get the tub into the house I decided to go with tile. It came out nice and Im glad I did it. Its alot of work but worth it.
