what happened to all the deer in the metolius unit

my dad and i both have the late season metolius buck bow hunt and have seen very few deer. we got out of the rig and made some nice hunts off the 11 road never seen a deer walking. all the deer that we have saw was while road hunting.5 years ago a friend had the tag there were bucks running everywhere proubally 100 deer aday. now we were lucky to see 20 deer most of them does.

this unit is not what it used to be, i have talked to lots of people that hunted it and it got hammered during the rifle hunt. i had friend that had 9 guys in camp and all of them filled there tags during the rifle hunt with 2 of the bucks being large.

prescribed fire burning shrub forage is probably a good factor. In September the Forest Service had a prescribed fire "run away" and there have been many other spot fires and broadcast burns in and around the unit that have changed deer patterns.

Saw about 150 deer the other day out there....this snow really help..

i must be hunting in the wrong area i hunted around the 11 road all the way out to the desert

Good grief! What did it used to be if they all filled their tags?

went down the 11 road during elk season- saw 6 deer. I think most of them are up in the burn. not enough snow to get them out of there yet.

Plenty of snow to bring them down. Saw about 150 deer.....GET OFF the road and glass.
