Tuna-WP, Pilar, Puffin, UG, Marty, Wild Hawg
Nope, they're not back yet! But I have pic's of them leaving for the big blue this morning. I loaned Marty my other digital and WP and UG have one on board also. Should have pic's from start to finish.
This morning Marty and his crew left early for the tuna grounds. The ocean was just like a lake. Then UG and the Wild "Dog" Hawg showed and just behind them was WP and his crew, and Pilar and Puffin.
Maybe I'll get lucky and get a shot of them coming back in. I will also give a report as soon as I can: numbers of longfins, grade, distance offshore and latitude and longitude.
Starting off in the wee hours of the morning (I had to lighten most of these).
Pilar
I don't know Puffin. Ya think the chicks will dig me in my neons?

Oh one more thing, if I give you the list of days off from work I've scheduled for the next 2 months, could you make a good forecast for those too?

I hear ya Mel. At least you get to be there. Im' working. Something about paying the mortgage forces me to do that. Plus my kids are like little chicks with gaping mouths to feed. Man they are growing this summer.

Re: Tuna-WP, Pilar, Puffin, UG, Marty, Wild Hawg
I better make a disclamer.
I experimented around with Microsoft Paint today and Wild Hawg's shirt doesn't actually say Disco Inferno on it.
I'm sure you knew that and it was all in fun but Charlie is a lot bigger than me.
Got to go filet some chinooks for a charter boat and then I'll see if I can round up the boys.
Maybe give 'em a hand with a knife. (Hope they didn't catch much).
Dano
PS> Since marty is considering staying another day I printed out that marine forecast for him.
Thanks Jen!

OceanBlue,
I won't be too picky and ask you to mess with the 5' swells, but would you knock those wind waves down a bit for Thursday too? They're really not necessary.

Dan,
Great pics! Please post report as soon as you can, may have to bust tail that way for tomorrow's action before the gusts set in.
Who's planning to run tomorrow?

WP is in. Had to come in early. Plugged the boat! Too many fish.
Headed down to the rocks. just got a hold of UG. Very distorted but sounded like they were coming in soon. Like to get picks of there arival.
Going to help cut fish and some more are going to be donated to ifishstock.
Post when I have a chance or someone will.
Later.

Re: Tuna-WP, Pilar, Puffin, UG, Marty, Wild Hawg
Well I stopped at the Carking station in Depoe Bay on my way home from work just to see who was in. Saw WP's boat outside first, and sure enough he was inside carking tuna.
WP got 24 - Distance about 32-35 miles NW of Depoe Bay.
While chatting, UG and Wildhawg showed up, their count was 14. They stopped short as that was all they wanted.
Pilar was reportedly on the way in with a similar count as UG and Wildhawg.
No idea what Marty's final count was. All boats were working in the same general area. Roughly N45 06, 124 42 area from what I heard. 64 degree water.
Ocean conditions today were ideal. As I was driving home from work, I was looking at the ocean and seriously considering taking the boat out for an evening salmon bite. VERY Flat ocean, looked more like a lake than the Pacific.
to all successful tuna fishermen today.

Re: Tuna-WP, Pilar, Puffin, UG, Marty, Wild Hawg
I was seriously considering that option but the boat is not gassed up, and I'm just gonna hold off for a trip monday. They oughta be in much closer by then as well, so cost much less in fuel.

Spoke with Marty on the cell phone a little bit ago; he was still on his way in. Said he has "close to 40" fish. I ask "are we going fishing tomorrow?" He says no, he's too tired from the tuna kicking his a** 2 days straight. Boo hoo.

Ha-HA! I got a call from Pilar who reported an awesome day on the ocean. Said he lost count of the tuna on board. Twenty? Maybe. Cool.

Ok that report put me over the edge! I cant wait for friday!!! I and 2 others are gonna ride the Black Rocket for a Halbicore trip. I was getting a little worried due to the lack of good tuna reports. Now I feel a whole bunch better.

Re: Tuna-WP, Pilar, Puffin, UG, Marty, Wild Hawg
N 45 05.785
W124 41.222
N 45 05.923
W 124 41.400
36 miles from Depoe Bay.
43 for Marty Fish, 19 for Pilar, 26 for WP (who is attempting to go tomorrow again) and 14 for UG.
They were all a good grade of fish averaging 20 lbs. and up to 35 lbs.
I ended up with 2 bags of loins from WP and another one from UG for pitching in with a knife. Missed out on the fun but still ended up with a lot of tuna.
Got my camera back from Marty and it looks like there is a couple good pic's on there. Will down load them in a minute and will edit them and upload a couple on ifish.
Good luck on your Halbicore trip tomorrow Willierower.

Re: Tuna-WP, Pilar, Puffin, UG, Marty, Wild Hawg
'twas indeed a great day on the pond...
I count myself as blessed to have been enjoined amongst a fantastic bunch of folks today with a single, fetishlike obsession--a bloody ritual involving the sacrifice of tasty albacore, sharp knives, and even sharper wits
I add the bowdown, because, unlike some of you, I find it much harder to be at the top of my game after a long day of tuna fishing.
I'd just like to give a shout out to the boys who made it all possible--
Yo yo yo yo yo yo yo PILAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yo yo yo yo yo yo, PUFFIN!!!!!!!!
To my homeys WP, Kelly, Depoe Bay Dan (I'll be dealin' wit yo BEEP later!!) WHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHH
DOGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
To Marty, and the boys down south (commercials no less!) that helped folks get dialed in...YOU are the kind of people who make things HAPPEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Scratch and peck fishin' early, and freakin' tuna massacre when we got dialed in!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Looked like one of the old films of commercial guys years ago tossin' em up over the gunnels by the bucket!!
36 miles NW of Depoe (I can get ya'all the numbers if ya like).
I'm whooped...goodnight!

Wonderful day!!!!
The fishing was good and the weather wonderful too, but the best part was the sharing and the comraderie of other Salty Dogs. I got a chance to meet5 some I had only talked to and meet up again with some who are becoming like old friends. Thanks especially to Depoe Bay Dan...and awesome knife man and more than able carking master! Thanks for the help and the friendship Dan. Good nigtht to all, I will be there in the A.M. to try again but will be watching the weather closely tomorrow.

Re: Tuna-WP, Pilar, Puffin, UG, Marty, Wild Hawg
Dan, cool photo essay. Looks like you even scrambled down the rocks to get the "outbound" shots? I think you have a potential career as fishing photo-journalist!
Is that UG's boat with the 1000 lb tote? I think he sets the record for the biggest "icechest" in the smallest boat. I wonder how that bow will ride if he plugs it!!!!
Thanks for the post....only thing you can do for us now is change that blasted forecast for this Friday. - Mark

Will post some more pic's as soon as I get back from Newport. Have to catch the migrating Englund Marine truck before it's too late with a Crescent City order.
Marty got a few excellent pic's with my camera and when I started editing the first one last night I ran out of gas big time and had to crash immediately. Could not go one step further.
Missed a nights sleep the night before and didin't wake up till 10:30am.
Pic's in the next hour or two.

Pilar, WP,
I was out fishing the same day you were. Heard you on the radio, but was a bit shy as I was on somebody else's boat.
Fishing with an excellent Tuna fisher onboard RYAN boat. We were pulling all hand lines and you guys ran right past us several times and we all 3 boats hooked up at the same time! Wow what a kick!
Anyway, I won't be so shy in the future. If you see that RYAN boat, follow them cause they are always in the fish!
