Default Is Newport still turning out salmon??

Hi all. Sorry for the dumb question. It just that the last time I was able to get out for salmon was on July 19 and at that time fishing was ON FIRE! We just had to go out to the 180-200 foot mark and drop the gear and limit with no problem. Is this still the case? We are planning on heading out of Newport on Saturday, 8/9/03. Are limits still the rule in Newport. How far out are you finding fish? Will I have to go out to the Rockpile? Anyone willing to provide me with coordinates to the Rockpile? Sorry for all the questions. Will post reports and pics if we get lucky on Saturday....

Thanks again,

Mike

Mike, the coho bite was on yesterday. We pretty much went out to the northwest (270 degree) to 240 feets. We had our limits of coho between 10 and 12 lbs before 11. I believe another post has the GPS numbers for the rockpile. Notice to they are calling for small craft warnings on Friday, so things might chance a little. Also the water is starting to warm up some, as we hit 50 degree water around 200 feet.

Plenty to be had including big kings. Rockpile, mooch or downrigger near the bottom - whole herring.

Besides, when it's calling for a big southerly, you sure as heck don't want to be running north in a small boat.
