Default Sardine in the Siletz

There is run of sardines in the Siletz. Seagulls are thick and the seals too. This is supposedly the first run in 16 years. The birds were feeding on the surface just like they do on the smelt at the Cow and the seals were seen herding fish to each other.

This is all the info I received. I would like to know how big they were. Anyone else hear or see anything?

One of the fish we cleaned last Sat. had a decomposed baitfish inside which was too round to be a herring - yup, sardine, I bet.

They are in Yaquina Bay also. Caught about a dozen of them last weekend fishing for herring. Tougher to hook though.

The sardine boats are running out of the CR like crazy. They are not far offshore and are filling their holds everyday, taking them into the waiting processors and trucks ( some go to Monterey, CA for canning )and then back out again.

When coho fishing last week I counted 12 sardine boats fishing and more going out.

Wow, this is exciting news. I have a couple rods for trout, bass, crappie, salmon, sturgeon, strippers, and walleye. What size pole do I need for Sardines? My wife will not believe that I have found yet another fishery.
