Thinking about moving.............
Well work here has almost stopped. I have checked into employment in other areas and the most work I have found is in washington. We are having a hard time making ends meet, like soo many others. If nothing comes about we will be moving to where the work is. Will miss everyone and fishing the north coast, but I have to go to where the work is.
Just thoguht I would let everyone know.

Re: Thinking about moving.............
Just remember the grass is always greener someplace else. Think about the expense of moving as well. Not saying that its not a good idea, just trying to help. I know the construction industry is slow around here and I know its slow there too. I don't know which is slower....

Re: Thinking about moving.............
well from what I have heard, they can keep me busy every day of the week doing something. I have a couple of calls in and just waiting to hear back. Price is going to be the deciding factor. I am a journeyman installer and I am not going to move for minimal wages. The wages up there seem to be better as an hourly employee than here. Guess it is because everything is more expensive. And their sales tax.

Re: Thinking about moving.............
What about seniority and the fact that they say they will keep you busy.
A new job wold mean that you are the new man maybe the first to go.
I'd rather ride it through with a company that appreciates me verses being the new man.
It sounds like a tough decision, good luck

Re: Thinking about moving.............
Best of luck to you. There are more jobs up in the seattle area, it's more expensive too. That said, with foreclosures and dropping home values, yo can probably find a good rental for someone who just wants to wait out the housing market slump.
It all really depends on what field you work in. Do the research, get your family on board with the move, and make sure you end up with a company that's got a strong business plan.

Re: Thinking about moving.............
Its hard to follow the money when you cant even get them to call you back. I have tried to contact them for 2 days now with no calls returned. Maybe they dont need anyone after all. I will just keep trying to get hold of them.
On the lighter side, I found a couple of homes up there for 900 or less. Just depends where I find work I guess.

Re: Thinking about moving.............
It might be a matter of simply getting to a more populous area. Portland Metro/Clark County still offer a lot of work, even in the "recession."
It has helped me, being in the trades, as you are. That's why I moved up from Eugene. Would have stayed for the trout on the mckenzie if not for the plumbing biz.
The move was great for business. Good luck.

Re: Thinking about moving.............
One trade off to consider..that I don't regret giving up ..is the Oregon Income tax. No income tax up here in Vancouver. Can make a considerable difference in your take home pay..moreso than the offset of the sales tax if you ask me.

Re: Thinking about moving.............
You can always run to oregon to get the fishing gear and no pay the sales tax too! Especially from vancouver, really close.
Those guys up there still havent called back. Guess I am going to have to take a couple of days and go up there and find them and meet them in person. Its not like I am slammed with work right now.

Good luck.

Re: Thinking about moving.............
Watch out for the Vancouver/Oregon income tax issue. If you live in Washington, but work in Oregon you still owe Oregon Income tax. Oregon considers that earning your income in Oregon means your tax home is in Oregon despite what your drivers license says. Check page 13 of the Oregon form 40N for details, but basically Oregon wants their cut for days you work in Oregon.

Hope you like traffic. Every now and then I remember why I didn't apply for that management job in Seattle - 3 hours from Redmond to I5 is not the norm but that was my last adventure there.
