Coast Elk
Hey guys now that deer season is over, I was wondering what you deer hunters saw for elk while in the woods. I plan on hunting the first season on the coast. I was able to do some scouting but would maybe like some insite from you fellas on some secondary locations to try.
Thanks in advance
WW

Re: Coast Elk
I would guess the guys that deer hunted are also going to elk hunt. Elk hunting spots are not going to be given out freely over the net. Just the way it is.
I hunt Saddle Mt., so since that is a draw, that's out. My suggestion is to expand on the area that you scouted, start in your first spot and then work your way out from there. You really don't need a bunch of different areas to hunt. If you know there is a bull in an area, that is really all you need. Learning one area like the back of your hand is far more valuable than running all over the country and hunting unknown ground.

Re: Coast Elk
I would guess that a number of those 188 views came from guys like me that thought they might get a peak at some elk photos.

Re: Coast Elk
I'll just be following Dale's rig, looking to jump his elk for him. He's got a sixth sense about finding the bulls.

Re: Coast Elk
So Rank Amateur, how did you do on deer at SM? I've hunted it for 20 yrs or so for elk but never did so well for deer. Havent been able to make the elk hunt for the last 3 years but my bro will be there for the 1st hunt, man I sure miss that place. Used to camp on the Elk Mt mainline but I guess they keep it locked now till early sat.

Re: Coast Elk
Pick up a shotgun and head for the blimp hanger in tillamook, Pay for a couple of days hunting and go bag one. There is a herd there of about 50-60 head. About 8 bulls in the herd.

I have been hunting East every chance I get, which is most years. Deer hunting in S.M. is getting tough at best. I did some elk scouting today, nasty weather in the morning and saw one Doe. Pitiful! Last year was a record low harvest for bucks, I bet this year won't be much better.
S.M. is where I hunt elk, I have been over East 4 times and did good, but I like the longer season and being an elk detective. The reprod is changing the game though, it's getting tougher.

Re: Coast Elk
I've seen one cow this fall, and this daily fog isn't making it any easier. I think I'll have to rely on luck, not that there is anything wrong with that.
And no, I didn't know you got a new bike. What happened to the old one?
