Default Garibaldi halibut results 8/2

Had my buddies Everett and Tim out with me on Saturday. We got to the hill at 8:15 after a bumpy 2 hour ride (glad I remembered my pillow). By 12:30 we were headed in with one black cod and 3 buts that were 33,40,50 inches. Stopped and trolled for salmon for about 40 minutes picked up one keeper (8 lb silver),one native and a small blue shark. Picked up the crab pots (8 keepers) and got back in to port at 4:00. Fun Day. We are thinking of coming up to Garibaldi on Friday to try something different than the Chicken Ranch. How is the Halibut fishing there? What was the drift and how deep? Can I get #s or do we need them? Or can we just follow the parade out? We run out of Depot Bay but the boat is out of water right now and we are thinking of something new for this next weekend. I would appreciate any information.

Thanks Ray on the Sherry Marie

Sherry Marie

I will be in Garibaldi Thurs-Sunday, I have numbers for the area. Halibut is in 780ft of water, bottom fish reefs 120-460ft, 3-25 miles. Tuna is 35-45 miles as of last week.

SM, We have been pretty lucky/patient this year and have been blessed with limits four times that we've been out. For some reason this year it seems that the hot bite is happening about 2 hours into the incoming tide (at Barview) and through high tide. I saw a charter (16 fishers) back in May fill their limit in two hours (3:00-5:00PM) after only getting 2 from 7:30 - 3:00. Most the other charters had already left with 1-3 fish each. The low slack was at 1:00 that day. If that holds true this weekend there may be some early limits to be had (high tide is 11:00). Hopefully we can get a smoother ride out this time. We will be launching at 5:30 Friday morning. Hope to see you out there. Good luck. HJ
