Default where is the rockpile?

Can anyone give me some info on where exactly the rock pile is?

We have just been going out of yaquina northwest until we find a bunch of boats clustered with charters and trollers and dropping our gear.

I have read a few posts that mentioned they were fishing in 180 ft of water where we are it is 250 to 260 ft and running 50.6 degrees so I am pretty sure we arent on the rock pile. we have been getting our 6 fish and back to the docks by 10:30 but the fish have been on the small side compared to the pics I have seen on here and the fish I seen on the docks that came from the rock pile. we have not been out of newport to many times but i would rather run a little further and not catch sardines ha ha. any help would be appreciated thanks

My suggestion would be to get a chart (can get them at Englands) of the local area. Look for Stonewall Banks, that's the Rockpile. It's about 12 miles pretty much straight out of Newport to the north end.

Maptech has an online chart server, so you don't need to buy the charts, just go there and look at the nautical charts available for Newport, OR. North end of the pile is 44deg36min North and 124 24 West. The South end is 44 28.5N and 124 22W

There were tons of chinook out there, but you had to be fishing deep. There were tons of silvers right on top, and they bit fast. We sore lipped a few nates reeling up or sending it down for the nooks. Use mooching sinkers, two hook rigs, and send em right to the bottom, and reel up a few turns. Lots of fish in the 25-35 pound range out there. We were fishing near the North to Middle, but I can't give numbers, since I was crew, not captain.

thanks for the info guys we were north west about 8 miles I would guess. there were some nooks around but all 20 lbs or less and the cohos were dinks I am going to look the pile up on maptech and if i get a chance at a boat seat this weekend try to get them to fish there. I am looking for bigger prey the dinks dont fight for squat and the nooks came straight to the net with out a fight. anyway thanks again for the info

If you're going NW out of Newport, you'll never find the rock pile. The pile is on all navagational charts and c-map loaded into most machines. The "pile" is SW out of NEWPORT

They are right, it's 15-17 miles SW out of Neport, also known as Stone Wall Banks on the charts.
