Default Triples for 3

The Sea Jypzee scores big on Sunday

We left Depoe Bay at 06:30 this morning after DepoeBayDan decided to come back with his breakfast, etc and headed out for some Salmon.

Got our limit of Coho (with a 13lb Coho by Bob), out around 50-60 fathoms, and decided to go see how the rock-fishing was so headed inside and limited out on Rock fish, then got our limit of LIng Cod as well.

Soooo, we ended up with Triple Limits for all 3 of us, and a great day on the ocean.

Smily - The scary thing is that I'm looking forward to going back to work tomorrow so I have a break.

Norm - the boat runs much better after the carb rebuild, but that wasn't the actual problem with it either. Explanation in the other thread.

Nice job on the fishies. Bob must be able to think just like a hatchery coho to be able to pick up a big one like that.

I took a couple of friends out on the Chum King on Saturday out of Newport. The line getting to the ramp took about 45 minutes, what a zoo. Saw Bill Monroe sitting at the dock, looking quite forlorn waiting for his ride. He was still sitting there waiting by the time I had parked the rig and we were on our way. Bill, did you ever make it out?

Saw a fair number of boats coming back in as we were heading out, so I had no delusions about it being a flat ocean. We took a nice long slow ride heading NW into the swell and chop to start out the day. At about 8 miles off the lighthouse I spotted some birds working and we dropped in.

We didn't get bit right away, but started picking up hits within the first half hour. We trolled back on a SE tack, and we were getting fairly regular hits over the first few hours, but then things dried up. Never saw the water temperature get above 47, and we had white caps almost from the start. We pulled the gear, and pounded back uphill about four miles and pulled our last two fish for the boat limit within about a half hour. We ended up with 5 coho and 1 chinook (~35 lbs), lost another 20-30 lb chinook at the boat (frayed leader), released 4 non-clipped coho, and we all had a great time.

Started out they were late and I was on time as usual. Now wait a minute Nancy, this is my story and my version!

OK, so I was late, what else is new!(Just barely).

Got out there in the big blue and it was nice, but not flat.

The fishing was good but the catchin' wasn't. My coyote went off first but didn't stick. We tried for awhile and after seeing no nets go up and listening to the charters whining it didn't look good and Nancy suggested we go out to deeper water where it might be warmer and give it a try. No mutiny there!

Wasn't long and mine and Bob's coyotes were attacking silvers like yellow jackets on a deer carcass and for the most part the silvers won. It was one of those days with a lot of "drive bys". Poor Nancy's hoochie was singin' the blues (the coho blues). I finally put one in the box.

Anyway I'm done, and waiting on these guys again 'cause see, I wanna go catch some rock cod!

Nancy's hoochie gets hot and she gets the "Big L" and now we are waiting for Bob who keeps catching these nates.

So I tell Bob; "come on Bob, you can study wild coho in the office on Monday, let's just catch some hatchery fish and go get some wild rock bass.

So he listens to me and catches this beautiful 13# chromer (of course) hen coho! What a dandy (pic below).

The ocean just kept getting nicer and nicer. Unbelievable because we were going to go fish my zipper lip snapper hole!

Nice coho Bob! (Notice that top secret spoon in the salmons mouth).

Oh yea, did I mention that Nancy's hoochie finally caught on fire? She had a streak where it enticed 3 or 4 to zero on the coyotes! But the old faithful coyotes had previously done a 10 to 1 job on the hoochies. The chartreuse coyotes put 4 hatchery coho in the boat.

Nancy was the lingslayer today shown here with her first one and Bob with a bass.

And she does it again! (How does she do it)?

Nancy with a Red Irish Lord. They are in the sculpin family along with cabezon but I recommended throwing it back because they really don't have that much meat on them and aren't all that common. Back he went (I don't think she was going to consider eating that thing anyway)!

Back at the ranch and a pic to show you how much fun we had! A lot of friends and family will be eating good and reaping the rewards of the day.
A very rewarding day out of the worlds smallest harbor. Depoe Bay, Oregon.

Finally tally:

6 silvers (Oncorhynchus kisutch), 6 lings (Ophiodon elgonatus), 28 blacks & 1 blue rockfish (sebastes something or rather) and one female kelp greenling (forget it).

Well, at least my report held a few more facts straight.

Actually Dan, I was using that watermelon spoon the first half of the salmon trip. I switched to a hoochie, and it lit on fire right away. But then, you do have sort of a distorted sence of facts anyway. After all, there are no natural salmon. They're all just non-clipped Hatchery fish, with a few Canadian hatchery fish thrown in for good measure to make it look like they're natives.

Way to go, Nancy, Dan and Bob...(Love that boat!)

Yeah, Chum King, I did make it out, but wasn't too forlorn...I had a dozen Krispy Kreme jelly fills to salve the sorrow...I got him to head to the Rockpile for only the second time in 10 years and before the wind blew us off we were six keepers for four of us, so not too bad...ride home was interesting...

Have to agree with Dan that DB is the place to go...outstanding facilities, too...fish are close.

Now don’t forget about the radio biology lesson we received on channel 80 yesterday. Now I know a little about rockfish biology.

Anyway, I was thinking you started out using hoochies and after mine and Bob’s coyotes were being attacked like powerbait in a trout pond you switched to the watermelon spoon. But I was brain-dead (up pouring lead too late and up too early trimming them and fishing).

Anyway just giving them a good plug even though I don’t sell them any longer. I have all the confidence of the world in them and have never been skunked on them yet and believe there has only been once that I have not limited on them. I don’t recall a time that they haven’t out fished anything on any of the boats I have been on except the time I went with you earlier this year and Lucky Luke caught two hatchery coho right off the get go on bait. But then they out fished bait and hoochies the rest of the day including the two Chinook they put on your boat for me that day.

I have stated on ifish several times how well the 3.5 chartreuse coyote works and it keeps on producing on any ifish boat I have been on. Great choice for saltwater coho fishermen.

Here’s Nancy D.D.S. showing the results of not flossing after eating a seabass.

Unfortunately it was too late for dental work for this guy.

Anyway, a fun and productive day!

PS> Just kiddin’ about Bob and the wild fish study. He was just waitin’ for the big ones to show up!
