Rainy Day Blacktail My Personal Best (UPDATE)
***Quick update, I am having Cory Wright do a shoulder Mount for me, and once the drying period is over I will have it scored. I will report back the score and in 9-12 mo I will get a shot of him on the wall!" Thank you all for you kind words, and this truly was an awesome hunt and buck!"*** I have had some estimates and it looks like it will net out very nice>>>>>>
Shot this buck on Wednesday down in Southern Oregon. I made a last minute decision to drive down south and spend the last few days of season in Southern Oregon. I am sure glad I did. My brother n law and I headed done tuesday night and got up early Wednesday to heavy rain and snow above 3000 ft. The deer were on the move, but it seemed every hunt we did was a few minutes to late. We saw 3 good bucks that had been killed in the first few hours of light. We spent most of the day hunting blocked roads up into the timber, and we finally found a road that had quite a few deer. We headed up a road that i have hunted many times before, but this was the first year it was completely blocked off by blow downs. I was excited to say the least. We headed up the road about noonish and we each took a different split of the road. I went up and my brother and law went down and across. It was pouring down rain at this time, so it made the walking very quite. I rounded the first bend and a doe and spike were hanging just off the road. The little spike challenged me with a snort and stomp, and was off into the timber. I quitely crept up the hill, and when I rounded the bend I caught a flash of horns in the timber. I knew it was a good buck, but did not know the caliber. I jumped off the road and caught the buck just before he cleared a small little saddle. I had one shot, and I took a small opening behind the shoulder. Here is the results.
This is where I found him.
This one is after a 3 hr pack out (He was in a nasty hole when I found him)

Thanks guys. I still can't believe it happened. I have seen a few bucks out of season bigger than this one, but this is the biggest I have ever really had the opportunity to kill.

Re: Rainy Day Blacktail My Personal Best
I love southern Oregon... I got an invite to head down for late archery season. You can definitely tell the genetics between the deer in the northern and southern portions of the state. They grow them big down there...
That's the buck of a lifetime! Congrats
