We need to figure out what his technique was! Coho roping could be the next Olympic event! It was legally hooked however BOE was able to half hitch it twice in addition, apparently to assure it's safe landing in the boat!

Thanks BM and BOE for being good sports about our crisis on the high seas.

I'll be posting pictures later today of the BOE / "McGyver" handy work!

YOU KNOW THE ONLY REASON WE MADE IT BACK WAS BECAUSE YOU SACRIFICED YOUR IFISH HAT TO THE OCEAN GODS!

Not to raise a stink or anything, but you don't use a gaff for Coho do you? I read that it is illegal to do so, and saw a guy get a fine for it a few years back when gaffing a sturgeon. If I am mistaken, pleaselet me know. Nice job on getting the fish.

you are correct spec ops it is illegal! we used the gaff to fix the engine so we could get back to shore! when corrirod posts the pics, check them out it will be something to see!

SpecOps, as BM said, the gaff was for the engine repair. I keep it on the boat for gaffing tuna.

Anyway, the pics are in! I would like to thank both Bait of Eggs and Bank Maggot for their patience and engenuity.

I don't know why I ordered a new pump, I should've just left this assembly on there!

That looks exactly like a few things at Roy's house. You should see the remodeled Kitchen, Zip ties everywhere!!!!

Zip ties, the high tech modern version of bailing wire.

Hey Waterdog

What you are looking at is a gaff hook, holding a cresent wrench (read wear plate) being held in place with tuna cord at the radiator cap, and zip ties at the motor.

The impellor shaft wore thru the face of the water pump, and we were trying to hold the shaft in the pump so we could get the 18 miles back to shore.

We were so confident in the repairs we even stopped and fished once we saw land.

Of course when the wind came up and the splash over the side of the boat, killed the motor for the 4th time, I was beginning to question the wisdom is stopping and fishing.

the motor cover wouldnt fit over the gaff hook so it took a lot of spray. Even found a bad coil wire in one of the drying out processes.

Thanks for the trip Rod, I not only had fun, I caught a fish, and learned something.
