TR.1 Gold Info
TR.1 Gold Info
I have a great opportunity to purchase one of these for cheap. I am looking for some honest feedback on these? How well do they perform? backtrolling? Boondogging/sidedrifting? How about any features? Any flaws these units have? Anything else that makes these units special? thanks for all your help.

Re: TR.1 Gold Info
I'm not versed on the Gold, but I have the Gladiator AP and it's great.
It has all the same functions as the gold. You asked if it would follow a trail
down the sandy river in reverse. Yes it will. if you have it properly set up.
It can do it forwards and reverse. The system can do a man overboard, cloverleaf, obit, circle, step turns, and a couple of other maneuvers.
It's the only system that can run in reverse. No other system has figured it out. PM Peter from PFM Electronics and ask him about them. He can fill you in on the hows and what fors on the gold. If you can get one of these cheap buy it. You can resale it, if you feel it's not what you want. They are far and few to come by. People just do not let them go. They are the best. You can not go wrong with the TR-1. Having it installed right is the key
for this system to function right.Placement of the Ball is everything.
Talk with Pete. he will fill you in. He installs them as well.

Re: TR.1 Gold Info
There is a reason its for sale cheap, someone found out how expensive a unit they are to own and keep repairing. You couldn't give me another one.

Actually I don't think you can get it to backtroll following a GPS route. It backtrolls great on a compass heading, it can definitely steer in reverse just fine, and it steers great forward, but when it's tracking to a GPS it just points the boat toward the next GPS waypoint. That is only effective when trolling forward as far as I can tell (or at least as far as I can make it work). Not so much a limitation of the TR1 as it is of your GPS. How would the GPS be able to tell which direction the current is flowing?
Definitely do talk to Pete-- great guy.

Re: TR.1 Gold Info
When Pete did my boat set up, we did just what he would like to do. We
set a stack. then in GPS mode, and in reverse, it followed it back to
the start of the track. So Yes it will do what he is asking about. But this was with a Gladiator not a Gold. So perhaps, you are correct. But ask Peter for sure.
