Help with Yo-Zuri Planer Board
I picked up a couple of those K-9.0 planer boards from Englunds today. I am hoping someone could offer some advice on how to rig it...how to attach lines to the rigging?...how much cord from the boat to the board?...how much from board to jig? Anything else? I have read many of the I-Fish folk's accounts of using these and am anxious to try myself. Bob

Re: Help with Yo-Zuri Planer Board
Ditto...I just bought one today too. A pic from Pilar would be nice Also, would anyone want to buy half my spool of tuna cord??? I got 400 feet of 200 lbs. Twice as much as I need. $11.75 buys 200 feet of tuna cord. Can't wait to try 'em out!
thanks,
steve

I find myself in the same situation: Two mini-surfboards and no clue.

Attach line from the boat to the line in the center of the diver. Attach leader to the line on the rear of the diver.

Re: Help with Yo-Zuri Planer Board
Wak'm and I Run a couple of the K-9 Boards, the first thing we did was replace the bootlace looking cord that comes on them with the real stuff,if I remember correct I had to drill the holes slightly larger to fit the diameter of the Tuna cord but IMO its a whole lot stronger, also Run your leaders longer like 12 to 15ft ,we started out at 6 and 7 ft and had problems getting the boards to run right.Goodluck.RJ

Re: Help with Yo-Zuri Planer Board
I run these on the short lines (60 feet) and just clip a normal 7 foot leader lure to the back. If I'm running all hand lines I ahve run a single planar on a real short (35 feet) line too. They can be a bear to get to dive, until they catch a wave and go down they like to surf.
New experiance last trip was stopping the boat cause we had 2 on rods, one on a planar and one on a regular flatline. THe fish on the planar (the planars come right to the top when a fish is on) swam sideways as soon as the boat stopped, the planar picked up the other hand lines and made a huge mess.
I shoulda cleared the fish on the handlines first and then worried about the rods. Not sure I have enough line on the reels to do this though. Slowing the boat to an idle mighta worked.

Re: Help with Yo-Zuri Planer Board
yes, we do run a commercial type bungee with the boards. The way we make our board lines there all one continious line, you may want to start with a 100ft of cord because it will only get shorter as you make the line ,First start with your cleat loop go down 3ft, pass cord thru eye of bungee a couple times and make a good knot continue thru eye and wrap bungee 10 to 12 times, same thing with bottom eye, then you can add your knots in handline every three to four feet (if you want),all the way to what length you want to run,tie onto your front of your board with your main cord, leader on the back to clone of choice and get to catchin hope this helps.RJ

Re: Help with Yo-Zuri Planer Board
Pilar had some great stuff on this, try the search function to see what comes up.
We use 2 bungies on the diver handline because they stretch the single bungie out. I think Pilar had the lengths stuff listed on how far the bungies stretch, but you want your line loop from one end of the bungie to the other to be just short of a full stretch on your bungie to keep it from breaking (which it will do with only one on a diver, speaking from experience). It takes some work, strategizing (is that a word?) and some quick foot work to cooridnate the handlines with rods. You almost have to stop with the rods and for sure slow to a idle (after holding trolling speed for 5-10 seconds, assuming you have the line cap. on you reels like you said). This is the time we have seriously considered setting up some of our large reels with about 80lb mono instead of the tuff line. It does not tangle near as bad. One help is if you do snag another line (either handline or rod) try to pull them in at the same time if you can. You really want to say "tangles" wait to you add a bird or other attractor (sp?) to your spread.

Re: Help with Yo-Zuri Planer Board
I have used the planner boards for years and even commercially fished with them. You do not need a bungie on them as the board flipping and planing to the surface gives all the shock absorbsion needed. I don't use bungies on anything over 50 feet as the line has enough stretch in it to absorb any shock (at least 15% stretch). Keep your gear simple, tuna fishing is not that complicated (that's why I like it so much). I have found that using straight mono line, no knots, swivels or any jewelry of any kind that can cause any disturbance works best. On my poles, I use 70# test mono that I slide through the jig and tie to a swivel that the hook is attached, works best.

Re: Help with Yo-Zuri Planer Board
ATC, I to used 70# on my rods attached to tuff line for jig fishing. I thought that I got more fish by using lighter test mono. However, I got tired of loosing jigs because the light line would get chewed up by a fish or two. If I forgot to change jigs, the next fish would sometimes break the line.
So I rigged them all with 150# mono, all that Englund's had at the time. I haven't been able to fish tuna this year yet to give it a try. What are your thoughts about line size, lighter line more strikes, or line size makes no difference in the amount of strikes? Just wondering if you have done any experimenting with this?
Will put it to the test myself soon!
Thanks,
Jerry
