Default Saltwater Jig Hooks????

Does anyone know anywhere in the Portland to Longview area that someone would carry large jig hooks like 7/0 and 8/0. That is what the jig mold suggests to use but no one I have found has them that big. I tried Fisherman's, Joe's, and Sportsmans. The biggest they had were 6/0. These are like 4oz round head jigs I am making. I am borrowing it from a friend and he couldn't remember where he got the hooks so no luck there. I figured the salty dogs might be able to help. Probably need to go to the coast to find um'. Leaving for Neah Bay next Wed. and wanted to get on it.

Thanks,
Ryan

Hello there Mr. Carp!

I got 'em! But I'm wholesale. :depressed:

My friend Brad at Bob's in Longview stocks them.

I just called them to see if they were in stock (and talk to my friend Brad).

Brad wasn't working and they were out of the Mustad 91750ST 7/0 & 8/0.

But, they did have 1 box left of the Eagle Claw 635 in a 7/0.

I had Bob put them aside (in the back room) for you with the name MR. Carp on them if you want them.

The 91750ST and 635 are the ones with the 90 degree bend at the hook eye.

A 34184 Mustad and 413 Eagle Claw have the 60 degree bend in them and work fine in a Hilts mold. I'm not sure which mold you have or what hook style it calls for but the 1 box of 635 Eagle claws should work fine.

Take your mold with you if you have any questions. Happy pouring.

There number is (360) 425-3870

Wow Dan thanks a million!!

You didn't have to go to all that trouble. I actually just got back from there and got a package of 7/0 Eagle Claws. There was one left on the shelf after I was done and that was probably the one he set aside. I feel bad now that you did all that, I guess I'll have to call them tomorrow and tell them I don't need them anymore. I got a pack of 6/0 and 7/0. thats 200 hooks so it should be enough for a little while. Seems like sson as I hit bottom, I snag up.

The jig molds I borrowed asked for 7/0 Eagle Claws and 8/0 Mustads. They were the 60 bend ones, but the 90 degree ones will be OK. I took my mold like you said as well. Like I said earlier, I never keep one long enough to know.

Brad is a great guy and we used to deal with him here in Woodland when they had Larry's Sport Center here, then Lewis River Sports. I hope we are talking about the same guy.

We deal with Bob's a lot because they are closer from Woodland than Portland and are always friendly.

Once again Dan, I appreciate it greatly that you went to all that effort for a few hooks for the "ol' Carp". Thank You very much for your help!!

Take it Easy,
Ryan

Mr Carp, just where are you throwing all those jigs that snag up all the time? Do as Dan does and swim them very slow and you will still hook up.

another source for hooks will be a little farther for you but worth the trip if you have the time.
Englunds in Astoria has much of everthing and I am positive you could call first. I understand you have plenty for now, but at the rate you are loosing them, well, keep Englunds in mind.

You just gotta love those bottom fish. I do after Dan showed me how it's done. Thanks Dan, you "da man"
