Daughters BBD story
So my daughter saw the posts requesting a story and this is what she came up with. Gets a little mushy but.....what the heck.
Well, it goes like this:
My Dad and I had gone out on several occasions, but it was too early in the season and the weather had not begun to cooperate. Between both of our schedules it had been hard to find a time where we could both go out together. I had tried to convince him to just let me go out by myself but he wasn't too keen about that idea. Then, Tuesday evening rolled around, and finally so had some weather. It was about 3:00 when I made the call to my dad at work, asking him if I could go out. He agreed, but not without me promising to stay on the roads(walking, not driving behind some local locked gates) and ,of course, I told him exactly where I was to be going. I rushed out the door, and headed to the spot. I wasn't feeling too confident. I figured if anything I might jump something if I was lucky enough. The weather was perfect though, raining off and on with a good cool wind. I crested a hill and spotted a doe feeding about 60 yards away from me. So I crouched down and just watched her a little. I felt like I didn't really know what to do. Where was Dad to give the next directions? So, I figured I would hunker down and watch for a bit. Then, getting a little ancy I thought I'd blow on my grunt call a couple times, just to see what she'd do. She watched me and then just walked off. So, I figured I would just continue walking on real slow. Then I spotted another deer about 50 yards off the gravel road in the timber. I glassed it but no horns. She jumped off, so I kept on going real slow and quiet, just keeping an eye out. Then I saw it. About 75 yards ahead of me I saw what looked like the outline of a nice buck rack. I remember thinking, "No way, that can't be a buck, nah." Then he turned his head and looked right at me, sure enough, he was real. He was standing quartering to me so I just put the cross hairs on his shoulder and let the .250 do the rest. He hunched up slightly and disappeared in the brush. I knew I had hit him. I ran up to where I lost sight of him, and there he was, no more than 40 yards from where I shot him. I was so excited, every creature in the forest within a mile radius knew I was. I had done it. I had shot a deer "all on my own." I was excited for about a minute, then I realized how much it sucked to not share this moment with someone; my dad. It was starting to get dark and luckily I had cell service and he and my mom came and met me in the dark bringing flashlights( I forgot mine). FYI: I wouldn't recommend gutting a deer by cell phone light! I am still finding blood on my phone!
Dad and I drug it out, with Mom holding the flashlights. I felt so blessed to be able to show my dad all I had learned from him. I know he is proud, but I am proud to have such a father who had taken the time since I was just a little girl to show me the ropes and teach me how to hunt. I can't take all the credit, without him, I wouldn't have been able to write this story

Congrats again on a great buck. Awesome story as well. They aren't called the Pacific Ghost's for nothing. Looks like your dad has done a great job.

WTG kid!
Great story.
I can just see in Dads face what he feels an I am sure mom is as proud as anybody.
That makes all those times walking with dad and getting those "looks" when you would step on a branch or roll a rock with your foot very well worth it all.
Congrats on a job well done, to you as well as Dad.

Re: Daughters BBD story
Great story! My first two daughters really never wanted to go hunting. But my last is excited even when she does not get to go. I hope to have her call me someday with a story like yours. Thanks again for the warming of my heart and for the tears......................Ok now it is getting mushy!

Re: Daughters BBD story
Its nice of her to leave out the real details:
"I hiked a little further than normal with dad. Being old and slow, we generally don't make it back to the honey holes"
"Man, it sure is easier to be quiet without dad coughing and wheezing every few yards..."
"dad asked to borrow my pink Browning logo hat for his next hunt..."

Re: Daughters BBD story
Mushy? A little . But absolutely beautiful!
The best reward a father could ever want. I really enjoyed the way you told the story hun.
A little smoke from the fire must of got in my eye.
You, your mother and father are very lucky to have each other and you've shown us all that fact. Thank you very much.
And Thank you all for reminding us all what hunting is supposed to be all about.

Hmmmm...I wonder if there is one of those books that has 101 uses for cell phones. Naw she couln't have read it. That was pure creativeness. Way to go.

Re: Daughters BBD story
Ya I think having a cell phone in your mouth elbow deep in blood is a bit more challenging then a mini mag, or coast light. Thank goodness for head lamps! Great story!! Congrats!

Re: Daughters BBD story
GREAT JOB AND BEAUTIFUL BUCK, GIRL! Perfect story. I can relate. Years ago, I had an "I-did-it-by-myself-buck" too and I know what you mean. It is so awsome to experience it by yourself and feel that pride that you accomplished such an amazing thing on your own..(especially blacktail)... but, my favorite hunting story so far included my Mom and Dad, my daughter and me hunting last year and my Mom killing her first blacktail. I will never forget sharing that experience with my Mom, Dad and my daughter. We are still smiling about it. Dad was pretty proud of his three ladies that day.

Great story and a nice hunt. The hunting in solitude is always a joy, but being able to share the experience at the end of the day with friends and family. Thanks for sharing your moment with the rest of us too.

Good story, and very nice buck. I have been taking my 7 year old son since he was 4, and plan to take my 20 month old daughter in a couple years. I hope they enjoy going with me when they get older.
