Default Spark Plug Salmon Report. Nice Ocean to Boot!

Hit the water out of Hammond today for a little Silver slappin. The ocean didn't look to friendly on paper so we decided to do a little catch and release for sturgeon and wait for the tide to stop ebbing. We hit 6 keeper size sturgeon and 4 shakers. Two of the keepers sturgeon were upper fifties and a hoot on light coho gear. My brother came up from Florida so I handed off the rod on the ten sturgeon that were boated. He had a blast

I decided to take a look see at the bar around 11:00 and found it to be quiet appealing. I hit the bar and found the ocean to be 4 to 6 foot lazy swells at 8 seconds apart. No wind waves so we headed toward the spark plug. Droppped gear at #2 and planned to troll to the plug. Never got that far due to that lovely sound of drag ripping and the plastic of the rod holder creaking. The silvers ranged between 8 to 9 pounds and the hatchery seemed to be 2 to 1 to the nates. We also cought 2 chinook that were just a tad bit too short.

Cruised back to Hammond at about 25/30 mph on a nice ocean. The river on the other hand was sloppy and bumpy, especially around #22. Gotto vac pac some fish and get some shut eye. See ya on the water......

Sounds like we have a 7 day a week fishery again! Congrates on the catching TB and good on you for the hand offs! Almost as fun watching as it is reeling isn't it?

Tacklebuster,

Are you going to be there tomorrow? I'll be in my sled, monitoring 78.

Good job on the fish!

Thanks for the report.

Mel- In my boat I almost always hand the rod off. I am the baiter, the netter, the guy that sets the hook, and the guy whooping and hollering when I see that big junk eating green on someone's face when the rod is bucking and the line is ripping. There aint nuttin better my friend

AndyCoho- I'll be there Saturday, my boat is moored in Hammond. The plan is to fish the river until about 10:00 or so and then take a look see at the bar and head out to the plug conditions permitting. I'll give you a holler on 78, where you launching from?

Dipnet- You guys coming up this weekend? The place I e-mailed you on is where we spanked those sturgeon. It was almost nonstop action. The salmon should be there as well

TB, you sound a lot like me on my boat. Most of the time I like to hand the rod off to the new people. It's good and bad in a way! I have been reffered to a drug dealer, letting the new guy get a taste and make 'em want more 'til they buy their own boat. Then again there is just someting about handing off a rod to someone and just watching their reaction. It is almost as good as catching the fish yourself.

Then again I get really excited and warn everyone prior. I am also leery abot others trying to net the fish, that is where experience comes in handy. I really hate losing fish and horrible ulcer I feel afterwards
