Bar fishing with prawns
With all the great pictures from ****** and others regarding prawn spinners, I was wondering if anyone has any info or pictures (perferably pictures) on how to tie up a prawn while using a spin-glo? I usually just squirt some scent on the lure and let it fly. This year, however, I want to start using bait! I'm a bankie who is either at Frenchman's bar or at Woodland bar waiting for that magical bell ring
Thanks for any info!

Re: Bar fishing with prawns
take the whole prawn and stick a piece of wire through the prawn to hold it straigh, go in from the tail to the head! next with a double hook rig solid tied put the top hook throught the bottom side of the upper tail and out the head, then stretchy string the prawn to the hooks and let the lower hook dangly out past the head of the prawn not too far though you want it to stick straight out, and if the line is too long between the hooks, the lower hook will dangle! this is how we doo it up at bonnevile and warrendale, and even down on willow bar for springers, hope it helps! above the prawn have 2 beads a corkie then a spin glo! 4 ft leader and 6 inch dropper! FISH ON

Re: Bar fishing with prawns
A quick and dirty way is just to use the prawn tail as you would use a sandshrimp tail. Peel the hood off of the prawn so all that you have is the tail. Then insert a flat toothpick through the top of tail to the bottom to straighten it. Trim the toothpick excess. Then take a 2/0 or 3/0 red gammy and thread it through the underside of the prawn tail and put the bait loop around the top the tail and pull it snug. Then slide a corky, large bead, and then a smaller spin-n-glow (size 6?). One other thing that has also worked for me is sliding a couple small corkies above the prawn tail and then a plastic clevis so that you can use a small spinner blade of choice. Just remember when you have a prawn on and those springers start biting give them a chance to eat it before you drive that hook home!

Re: Bar fishing with prawns
Anyone know any reason why this setup wouldn't work further up river, say Salem to Harrisburg? Or on the North or South Santiam?

Re: Bar fishing with prawns
The shape is known as a colorado blade and that particular blade in a chrome lindy Colorado #4, also try the #4 in brass and hammered finish's as well.
you can get the blades and blade clevis's at most major tackle retailers..Bob's, Fishermans, G.I.Joes, all have a spinner building supply section.
Or Cabelas, BassPro shops etc. alot of the Walleye blade patterns will work for springers as well

Re: Bar fishing with prawns
Great pictures guys, is there any reason to not use 2 spin and glo's to get the bait up a little bit? Just a question for the curious. Thanks

Re: Bar fishing with prawns
Here's a coulpe I always liked.
Edit part: BTW....Ugly Green created these, they might work since he did catch the first Ifish springer I wouldn't know for sure though. I've just used them for my screen saver.

Re: Bar fishing with prawns
rainrshine,
seen many try the twin spin-glos with no success. If more floatation is needed upgrade in spin-glo size.fishermans and G.I.Joes have them as big as golf balls. 00 I believe..I prefer the #2's for the columbia.
Great pic Bobby,
the top one looks like a twin fin set-up with a prawn tail..deadly on the steelies.
Bottom pictued is standard spin-glo and hootchie with prawntail.
I used to use the spin-glo hootchie up north on the skagit in feb for some great steelie action..might have to start using it again for springers!!
