Default Found German Shorthair Pointer Eugene

Hey,

I found someones hungting dog this morning. She was on my porch.

Pure-bred dog. Legs like a body-builder. Someone's hunting dog. German Shorthair Pointer, young.

Describe the dog and where you lost it. I will be keeping it at my home.

This reminds me of an old Outdoor life story I read way back when.....

In the story a young guy was unsuccessfully hunting a field without a dog and describing how he always wanted one but life and money never let it happen. He continued to hunt upland birds alone because he loved it yet he was not fully satisfied. As he was unsuccessfully working the field out of nowhere a dog came over to him and instinctively started casting the field in front of him. Not knowing the dog or were he came from he cautiously looked around, seeing no one prayed the dog would have no one and he would be able to take it home. He thought that this time finally he would have the dog he always wished for. In the mean time the dog is quartering, pointing and flushing quail and pheasants and he is connecting on every shot. This continued as the author described the beauty of the work both the dog and the young man were doing. The young man at last reached his limit in birds and had to stop, a feat he never would have accomplished without the help of a fine dog, he would have been lucky to have one or two birds a season alone. The man and dog then shared the moment of victory together. The dog pranced at his feet close enough he finally was able to see it had no collar or tag to show its owner. The young man again was filled with hope. Then the dog stopped like it was hearing some faint sound in the unseen air. Looking both the same direction off in the prairie the young man and dog could see a group of children playing in the grass calling an unheard name to the wind. The dog looking briefly back at the young man was gone in a run. The young man was again alone but carrying the gifts the dog had left him in his hunting vest. Broken hearted the young man returned home to share the gifts with his new family. The young man eventually had many fine dogs in his life but the story says never one like the dog that was never his.

At least that is how I remember it. I think Hill wrote it or someone like him. This is home I remember the story. And in some ways there is a little of this story in a lot of us.
