Re: IfishSCUBA
I'm certified but prefer warm water. I haven't sampled the waters off the Oregon or Washington coast.... yet.

I dive, mostly freediving, but I am not available for ifishstock. I have friends up from CA and we will be fishing BFB and tuna down in Newport.

Re: IfishSCUBA
I'm not going to be able to make it as I will be in Quebec City Canada teaching a class that day.
You should try getting in touch with CAPT KUJO at USIA 1-800-247-8070 ask for Kim (Mr.).
He dives all the time and also knows where to go for the goods.
Good luck and be safe,

Re: IfishSCUBA
Hi Abalone,
I use to love getting Scallops in the ocean. Orange lippers you can spot a mile away and the green lips were a little more harder to spot. Any way that's the way we use to hunt for them down south. It's been a while since I last dove but I am game. What are the limits here? How deep are you diving for them?

Re: IfishSCUBA
Hey there Abalone,
Definitely a Diver.... Sorry but I am unavailable for the Ifishstock. I dive alot out of Newport but have still yet to make it out on the reefs here for scallops. Seems like when the ocean lays down enough to go out I want to go fishing...lol Decisions decisions.

Re: IfishSCUBA
I will be attending FISHSTOCK, and would consider taking a few IFISHER out. If any of you need a "refresher" or are certified and would like to learn drysuit diving. I can offer both to help increase your comfort and safety level. I am a current PADI/YMCA Master Diver Trainer. I can supply all equipment including dry suits. Just seeing if there is any interest. Shoot me an e-mail if you might be interested.

Kujo: You can count me in if we can find more divers. So far it looks like only one other diver
sounds commited. I will make another post today, see if we can't get a full boat.

Re: IfishSCUBA
For any of you that haven't dove the Oregon coast offshore pinnacles or headlands you would be
in for a treat. However: depending on sea condition, be prepared for Current, surge and an arm load of seafood. Not for the faint of heart but if you are an experienced diver and are at home
in the Ocean it would be a dive of a life time. I have dove all over the pacific and I think Oregon
is the best place to dive anywhere. Why ? Incredible virgin reefs, Jillions of fish, miles of bottom
structure Tons of sea food. Not to mention the excitement of the boat ride and incredible shore
life you can see along the way.
Also: I would venture to say that few divers know the Oregon Coast as well as Capt. Kujo
He has been at it longer than anyone activly diving that I am aware of. There may be a few
old timers out there but Capt. Kujo has logged many hours.

Re: IfishSCUBA
Abalone,
Now you've got my interest! I've been diving the Oregon Coast enjoying Scallops, Lingcod and other delicious creatures of the deep for 20 years. I still love to dive after all these years!
Let me know the details.
Been diving with Kujo and yes he knows where the "SECRET HOT SPOTS" are. Kujo has a top of the line, safe, diving service and can give you an experience of a life time.
This would be a good opportunity to check out my Zodiac RIB for sale.
Dont know if I can make but will try to cancel the Wife's other plans (yea right)

Re: IfishSCUBA
So far I am the only one fully commited except maybe Kujo. Things can only get solid if people
commit. I realize it is short notice but those of us that know what we have to look forward to
won't pass up the chance.
Looking for Three more diver to commit before Kujo will book ! $75.00 is cheap. So whatdahyawaitenfir ?
Smiley: The limit on rock scallops is 24 the last time I looked. The rock scallops here are the
size of a Big Mac but tastier. That's just the muscle. Plus you can eat the mantle ( Lips )
You should go. Cold Water ? Hell it's a balmy 60 deg. out there. I am thinking of leaving my wet suit at home.

Ok we need a boat. Called Kujo and it looks like there is a conflict for that day.
Anyone have a SAV ( special action vessel ) available for that day ?

Re: IfishSCUBA
Yes it is but this gives me an idea for dives in the future.
I want to do a poll and see how much interest is out there for diving.
The sense I get from some of you folks out there is that we could get something really good
going here.
IfishScuba ?
Salty Dogs Vs. Sea Monsters Hmmmm ! Lots of possibilties.
Ifish Scuba Club perhaps ?

Re: IfishSCUBA
Great idea, Salty Dogs versus Sea Monsters, but I can sustain 8knots unless it is an out of control ascent...and you know how that ends
Tell these Salty Dogs who we are and we will be untangling anchor rope, tuf line, and mono from their screws and washing their undersides just to get a tuna fix
60 degrees, geez that is only 12 less than Hawaii, and 22 less than Cozumel, Brrrrrr.
Okay, I am intriqued, after the baby comes I will have to get into a fall trip and start racking up some cold water hours chasing crab and other critters.

Re: IfishSCUBA
Not totally washed out. Weather will dictate Ifishstock. 9th is a hilibut day...But not ruling out an afternoon dive. If nothing else the clam beds in Garibaldi are PACKED! Makes a great "for food dive". Also great place to get experience in a dry suit and cold water.

Re: IfishSCUBA
I just got my PADI open water certification last year and have yet to do any cold water ocean diving. Used to spear fish a lot years ago free diving down south. If an opportunity exists for a "refresher" and chance to try a dry suit, I would certainly be game for that. There are lots of critters out there just waiting to be harvested!

Re: IfishSCUBA
I have been reading and searching on the net for beach dives in Oregon. It's the cheapest way to dive for some of us. I use to really like to dive a lot and could afford the boat dives only once a month. Seems like there is a couple of places in garabaldi and newport for beach dives. I have
logged a lot of dives from the beach as well from boats. It's been a few years since I last dove but have been gettin the itch pretty badly again.
Anybody interested? Anybody do any beach dives around here?
Capt'n Kujo, While diving for clams, Do you look for the small holes like beach clamming?

Re: IfishSCUBA
Good shore dives in Oregon on the North coast are kind of difficult. We used to dive Whale cove a lot in the 70's a early 80's and it was really good fishing. It is one of the few spots I know of that
a diver could access from shore and still have a really great dive. Some Californians bought the restraunt on the hill right above it and decided to petition the State to make it a Sanctuary. I guess it bothered them to see divers hauling up big strings of fish. That was a trajedy for diving as it was about the best dive site on the coast for those that didn't own a boat. You can still dive it but
you cannot spear fish inside the bay. The access is relatively easy. You enter on the South shore
right off the rocks but getting out of the water is a little trickier. You have to swim around to the
back and ride a swell back up onto the rocks. I know a bunch of divers that used to dive Boiler bay but that was really hairy. You have to stand about ten feet above that water and wait for a swell.
Then you dive in when it reaches the top. Coming back in you do the same thing but you have to hold on to the edge till the next swell comes along and pushes you up, with all your gear and Forty pounds of Scallops, Thirty pound of fish back up. No Thanks I 'll use my boat.
Diving that part of the coast is Awsome. There are lava tubes all over that area ? and they are fun
to swim through.
Best access to Oregon diving is with a boat or a good charter.
