Duckin spotlight
Every year I seem to go through a few rechargeable handheld spotlights in my duck boat. In the heat of the day they almost always end up on the bottom of the boat rolling around in a puddle of water and get toasted. In the past I have bought the 1.0 million candlepower rechargeable units for about 10.00 on sale and while cheap, it gets really old finding out your light source bit the dust when you need it. Are there any decent units that are made for the harsh conditions and abuse ducking dishes out to equipment? 1-5 million candle power, hand held, rechargeable, waterproof, camo, and able to withstand salty ducking conditions are on the wish list. Any ideas are appreciated.

Re: Duckin spotlight
Jim my problem has been with the rechargable holding power long enough I have start using the walmart specials that plug into a lighter. You an also get an adapter for a few bucks that clips onto you battery or just cut off the recargable part and put clips on it to hook up direct that is the best I have found. I also keep a four battery mag light handy expensive but tey really put out the power.

I agree with what Dan says, keep a 4 or 5 cell full size maglite in the seat or storage for back up. They will get you back to the mainland for sure. Then it doesn't matter how cheap the big light is and just figure on spending your usual 10-20 bucks a season on the way you been doing it.

I use my dive light. They are waterproof, and can take a heck of a beatin!
Look on ebay and you can get them for cheap.

Re: Duckin spotlight
My boat is a small one and doesn't have battery power like your bigger boats do. So if a guy were to want a handheld spotlight, what would be the one to look at?

Re: Duckin spotlight
I never thought of using my divelights. That's a great idea.
What I've used for the past 2 years is one of those big, 10 million candlepower rechargables. Last time I used it on Mud Lake, I could see the blind reflectors for most of the blinds when I entered the lake.
It's taken what abuse I give it, which many of you know is a LOT.

Re: Duckin spotlight
Rob, that 10mil light of yours....is it a big ol thing w/ a wire stand....waterproof if I recall? Or is that TDM's?
I understand Jimbo's problem.....don't see too many waterproof spotlights. They all seem to need cooling vents and that renders them useless after their first swim.
I use a plug-in designed for ATV use. It always works.
But to be quite honest.....they blind me. I see better when them off. But still need one to double check landmarks and such.

Technically, TDM has the 10 mill, and I've got the improved, 15 mill, model of the same light. We got them at Costco a couple of years ago.
There's something to be said for lighting up Mud Lake!
