Re: Old SaltyTunaholic Virgins- show of hands!
I dont' know Skein... what with your advanced age, and chronic EWS ailment (Englunds Withdrawl Syndrom) DipSeaDiver better bring your meds along for your trip with Popeye.
Besides, you probably won't like tuna fishing, then have to sell your new Weld Ed Weld boat to another worthy Salty Dog who's got the Tuna bug.
See, last chance, don't go...
yea right...
have a wonderful trip.

Well I've never been more than 5 miles off shore but reading about you tunaholics has got me saving up for a bigger boat. I'd love to take a tuna trip with someone if the chance came up.

Wait a second. Mel is asking for a show of hands of folks that want to go on Miss B. right? So far I have'nt seen any "take me, take me" hands in the air. Someone better belly up or some seasoned folks will step in, take your place, and once again be satisfied by a tunagasm.

Re: Old SaltyTunaholic Virgins- show of hands!
Tuna-Virgin here!!! I will admit not making any of the meetings they were usually held in the evenings and I start my work day at 2 in the morning and dont really live too close to the meeting places but I have been fortunate enought to get out Halibut fishing and silver fishing on the ocean and have absolutly fallen in love with the ocean!!! I would really enjoy getting out to experience a TUNA slaughter some day and am more than willing to help with what ever costs come with the trip. I'm VERY easy when it comes to doing what is asked of me while out on the water I will do what ever is needed  Thanks in advance!! Rainrshine

Pay for a tuna charter every year. I am now saving for my own boat. I am not really finding what I am looking for. If there is ever any openings I would love to join in.

Lessee who still needs a ride!

<font size="2" face="verdana, arial, helv">So the question was who "have NOT gotten a trip out for the bullets yet?"
That would be me. I have gone to several meetings, I have posted desire that has been construed as foolish and finally out of sheer desperation I went deeper and deeper into debt to buy a boat so that I can give myself a ride. I aim to do just that this weekend, weather permitting. I gotta get a fix. On top of the Tuna Jones I have going I have been over seas and away from my boat and haven't fished in MONTHS!
Rainorshine, I am booked for the Halibut days but intend to go out just for Tuna Sunday weather permitting. What do ya say? A repeat of the first Springer trip on the Columbia? We got it bloody that day, remember?
Let me know soon...
Do you still have my phone number?
Check your email...
Mel, what are you really trying to say?

Re: Old SaltyTunaholic Virgins- show of hands!
I fit the description of the statement below
(posting desire and generally making fools of yourselves at home and on the board) I haven't been to a salty only meeting yet. I did make the Ifish get together @ the Road house last summer and met several Salty Dogs.
I haven't been off shore in over 10 years. I used to have a pretty good set of sea legs. I'm ready willing and able if a seat should opens up.
Other than this weekend and a family vacation coming up mid August I'm available any day of the week even with short notice. I own my own boat and consider myself a safe and courteous fisherman. I'm willing to share expanses, clean the day's catch, wash the boat, do the laundry, wear a funny hat or do whatever if it will help get a seat. Please pick me!!!!!
Your loyal servant

Re: Old SaltyTunaholic Virgins- show of hands!
Hi, my name is Kevin and I am a Tuna Virgin. On top of that, I am also a Halibut virgin. (Double whammy!) However, I have a trip planned this Friday with Nancy (Sea Jypzee) for halbut and she made the comment we might do tuna as well. Maybe, just maybe its my time. I have my fingers crossed, but waiting for the all clear sign. As many of you know she has had some carburator problems.
To be honest, I had no interest in Tuna, before you all started talking about them. Now I would really like to get hooked into one. There have been many on this board (Pilar especially) who have helped educate us salty pups, and I appreciate that.
If admiting it helps me get a trip, then I admit it!!

Mel - wouldja believe? All those posts and pics were my evil twin. She's crazy. I'm really a TUNA! virgin - Take ME, Take ME! (oh, my kingdom for a smilie doing the Arnold Horshak hand-raising thing)
Okay, I'm kidding... about the evil twin part. And the virgin part. Oh, okay, and the take me part. Pilar won't let me crew on any other boat... unless he's along, too.... and it's a sword boat. And... oh nevermind.

Hey dogs, Eric here, I went 2 times in FL. and 1 time in OR. I have a cus that lives in fl. and took me out for the 1'st time, what a blast.. So I'm new to the tuna, but would like to get out soon. Was over out of newport on 7-18--7-20 caught salmon limits and 7 tuna, only fished tuna 1 day for an hour or so, our ice was running low so back to the dock we went.I tune in to you guys now and then and learn alot from all of you, not just fishing but SAFETY... and I thank you all for that. I hope to get over soon and fish tuna at least 1 more time this year, and meet some of the dogs, well the forman is on his way over and he will never understand this, he a bass wacker . BE SAFE!!

Re: Old SaltyTunaholic Virgins- show of hands!
My name is BOE (almost tuna virgin). I have had a little tuna slime on me  but I have never tuna fished professionally, so it isnt like I ever worked the docks or anything.
I could be tested if you are concerned, I hear some clinics offer that service for free and the results come back pretty quick.
I have been known to attend meeting and make a fool of myself, so I got that front well covered.
I have seen the dead fish quiver, folded some pecs forward and performed what could be called S&M, looking for a vein with a sharp object. But I promise to be gentle on our first outing.
I am not looking for a long term commitment, but enjoy long walks on the beach, moonlight evenings, fishing. (sounds like a wak'm stak'm personal doesnt it )
So sailor, ...tell me about your boat?

Re: Old SaltyTunaholic Virgins- show of hands!
OK Mel, I have not been to a meetin', fairly new to this, am a Tuna virgin and would love to go either in my boat or with you on the Miss B. I am a little nervous going out that far in my 20'Grady. Went 8 miles west of CR chasing salmon last year.I consider myself a good crew member willing to do the necessary deck work, cleaning washing scrubbing in order to do some reeling on the bullets. Also would naturally share expenses, lunches and a few stories as long as nobody brings bananas.
I am planning on going either on a charter or with some Salty Dogs with experience. Don't mind pitching in for any new tackle. Can bring my own pole(s), life jacket etc.
After reading all these posts, I have taken the bait hook, line and feathered jigs.
So if you have room, let me know and we'll get together in your neck of the woods to talk about a trip.

I can vouch for Zippy if that means anything. Good guy but you might want wiper blades for his glasses when the blood starts flowing from the tuna carnage  .
Mighty generous of ya Mel. A boat full of virgins. Could not get any worse than last Saturday. Hey, you can even teach Tuna Carking 101.

This is pretty good, I must admit.
Jen, you can fish with anyone you want. Just realize that you are pretty spoiled. I mean you did get 36 TUNA! on your inaugural trip on 'Pilar'. I don't do that for just anyone.
So go ahead and find out how the other 99% live!

Well Mel... others beat you to it. Threemuch de-virginized three of us on CD Johnson's boat - stopping at 15 albies.
Then Pilar added to the carnage a week later with Popeye's assistance - the bloodletting stopped at 37.
So no longer a TV... sorry. That said, would love to join you sometime. Learning alot each time I go out. Fun to see&hear how different folks do it!

Arghhhh....I ~knew this was going to be a problem post! John- PLEASE edit this thing, kill it, cut me off whatever!
Ok - so the intent is too get the folks who have been on the board and at the meetings all dang fall and winter and spring out there first!
Looks like a couple haven't made it. You're on first guys! I'm getting set up for a week or 2 of vacation end of aug or early sept and before it's just "open seats" I wanna make sure the folks who have been "around" get first dibs on a chance out. The rest of you will have to wait, but don't give up, looks like a long season!

Re: Old SaltyTunaholic Virgins- show of hands!
Hello, my name is Jamie and I am a TUNA! virgin. I came to ifish in the spring and couldn't make the single meeting scheduled after I joined. Since reading the numerous posts and seeing the pics this year I am nearly rabid over the prospect.
Alas my job doesn't allow consistent days off and therefore I never know more than 2 weeks out when I'll get a chance to go fishing at all, let alone for TUNA!. :depressed:
The real killer is fresh TUNA! is my favorite fish! On the Bbq, in a fry pan, over pasta in a cream sauce,... You name it and I love it.
Nancy,
I do have alot of diagnostic experience and have wrenched a fair bit. I have followed the story of your plight with interest. If your engine troubles keep pestering you, give me a holler and my next day off will include a trip to Depoe Bay with some tools.
DB Dan has "shown us the way" for lings, bass and cabbies from the shore,...
But I know there's more,.......
Thanks for askin'!
Jamie (and Austin too)

Re: Old SaltyTunaholic Virgins- show of hands!
I am a TUNA virgin, and i am not proud of it. I sit here at my computer every night looking at the TUNA that everybody has caught that day or the previous days and I wonder am i good enough to catch one of those beauties? Well i know that i am, and i will get my chance, it just depends on the ocean. So for the next week and a half i will be praying to Neptune to please let the Big Blue lay down so i can catch one of those little rockets...
My day will come.

Tuna Virgin? Uhhh ya, that's me... I'd love to catch one of those little things.
Ok, so maybe I'm not quite a Tuna Virgin...was worth a shot. Just ask Wildhawg, he'll vouch for me. Ya, that's the ticket.
Jamie - Hopefully the problems will be resolved first thing tomorrow, and life will get back to normal. Thanks for the offer. Will keep ya in mind.

I have TVI (TunaVirginIdis). Have been to 1 SD meeting. Have been working on my own Tuna boat but have yet to go out more than 5-6miles. Have started collecting some Tuna gear. Just need to tie up some feathers and I am ready. All I need is now some know-how. See my hand in the air??? I would LOVE a Tuna ride. Please put me on the list. I can go just about anyday with a few days notice. (except Sept3-13, archery elk hunting)

Re: Old SaltyTunaholic Virgins- show of hands!
Okay, I'm a tuna virgin. I attended a TA meeting back in April, and learned quite a bit, but I still have a long ways to go. I have just purchased all of the makings for a few handlines and I'm just trying to decide how to put it all together. As much as I love the ocean, I have never been able to convince my stomach that it okay to be out there . I have been out about 20-30 times and can't seem to get over the illness. I have never asked to be brought back in, and I would never want to shorten somebodys trip. One of these days I will beat this motion sickness thing. If someone wants to take pity on a wanna be, sign me up.

Love2fish - chummers always welcome, ask Catch & Puke (HeHeHe). Only legal chumming method in Oregon, we'll have anchovies for breakfast! (well - i guess it's legal??). You're on the list, have you tried the scope patches? They seem to be the last resort. Send me a note with contact info will ya?

Re: Old SaltyTunaholic Virgins- show of hands!
Have been renovating 1928 house in Depoe for the past three years. Just about done! Never skipped jigs for Albacore, in Oregon. Mako, yellowfin, bull redfish, dorado, amberjack, snook, and bluefish though. Boat and fish saavy. I'll fish any time. Office in home and will clear schedule to fish. Friday? I was thinking of doing the Bouy 10 thing Friday, but bad morning tide. Will chip in for all expenses and have good Penn stick w/ matched 4/0 reel. Need to learn how to navigate ocean access from smallest harbor.
Thanks for the listing and a great web site.

Old SaltyTunaholic Virgins- show of hands!
Ok- so how many of you wanna be's and virgin Tunaholics that have been attending meetings, posting desire and generally making fools of yourselves at home and on the board since last winter have NOT gotten a trip out for the bullets yet? (Nice run-on huh? )
Lessee who still needs a ride!

"attending meetings, posting desire and generally making fools of yourselves at home"
Okay, you caught me Mel. I attended a tunaholics meeting last fall with you, crabbait, Pilar, BOE, Threemuch, etc. at the Roadhouse. Since then I have sold my boat because it was to small and ordered a 25' C-Dory which is supposed to arrive in 2 weeks. I also sold my ranch in Gaston and bought some riverfront property on the Elochoman River in Cathlamet. I've been trying to keep a low profile here at salty dogs because I don't know how and have never been farther than a couple of miles offshore. It's kinda hard to contribute when ya don't know squat. But I have to admit, I'm a wannabe.

Re: Old SaltyTunaholic Virgins- show of hands!
Mel tells me that Keta gets a big grin on his face when bleeding tuna during the death rattle. You will have to see the technique for yourself.
As for Captain Mel and the Miss B. Do not hesitate to take him up on his offer. What a blast. Tuna virgins, this is your chance for a great time. And if you beg hard enough he might even stop off for some Salmon fishing for 45 minutes.
Cheers to Mel and Miss B. I would go again in a heart beat. But I am not a virgin any longer. Preference to virgins and future tuna holics.

Re: Old SaltyTunaholic Virgins- show of hands!
Jen- I have the lists but did not know who has got a chance to get out and who hadn't. Wanted to give the folks who hadn't gone first dibs for some August trips (hopefully). Lost track of all the posts on who was riding with who etc etc etc.
Looks like about 5 folks who haven't seen the wreck yet!

Re: Old SaltyTunaholic Virgins- show of hands!
Mel, I have attended two TA meetings, chased FB till my tag is almost full but am a true tuna virgin. I don't have my tuna lures yet but will pick them up on my next trip to the coast. You also asked about old salts. I am sorry to say that I am older than Skein. And probably wiser.
I am looking for a ride with someone who has experience and can teach me the wonders of tuna slaughter, before I take my boat out to tuna town.
I will have to check with NorRivDave about your credentials though. Does he know about something about your past that should be made public?

Miss B,
TV is another one of us that is a bit touched in the head. He'd be a good person to have on the boat and I hope he can get out on one of the trips that I'm slaving for you
Did you see my latest Ebay score?
TV,
You don't need "Soap on a Rope" or Depends when fishing on Miss B.

Re: Old SaltyTunaholic Virgins- show of hands!
Mel,
I am a Tuna Virgin and looking to be deflowered. I missed the April TA meeting due to unexpected circumstances. I have been out for the Fatties and done well on most trips. I did go out on the Blitz for Tuna last Friday, but, as you probably have heard the bite was just not there. I have been out on the Big Blue with Pilar and have met quite a few of the ifishers.I sure would like the opportunity to go out for Tuna on the Miss B. too. Thanks for offering to help people out with enriching their Lives. Tight lines, Tom

Gosh, you look away for a minute and the rumors start. Now all the Salty Dogs will think I'm easy. Haven't you heard of born again virgins.
Mel's boat is enticing the way the bed spins in circles,,,oh or was that just C&E experience...rralph! And Barry White music he has playing softly in the cabin will put you at ease. Mmmm, somehow I don't feel guilty

Keta, I just got some new rubber boots and bibs, so we can go as a "matched set". Nah, that would be way to much ugly on one boat.

C&E's response to Cheap Shot Gus:
Gus we all know you have round heals. Kind of the Village bicycle thing from all appearences I suppose. Some people will do anything for a tuna.
BTW just what shade of green were you there Fungus? Just a warning to everyone. Fungus has a new fungi in the process. He will not be allowed to fish after August 1st. His anchor will be at home. GOT BABY WIPES?????
