Another Blacktail Down!
I started hiking into an area that looked promising before light on Monday in the rain. First still hunting a small patch of timber before coming to a clearing around 8am. After glassing for a few minutes I spotted 3 does being pushed around by a rut crazed buck. Its like a horror film where the girls are running and the killer is just walking the same pace but he always seems to be right behind them. With his neck down and his nose up I watched them for a few minutes doing circles before coming up with a game plan.
Of course when I got in range with a good rest they were nowhere to be found. After glassing for another 30 minutes with fog moving in and out, I finally spotted one of the does, then another, then there he was....with a tree blocking any shot. He moved into a draw that I couldnt see into so I waited. I was watching an open spot to their left thinking it sure would be nice if he was over there. About 5 minutes later he somehow went undetected into the opening to the left. Sometimes things just work out.
One shot later......
Its hard to tell by the pics but he is a little 4x5. I took the whole week off to hunt and now he is cut up and with this weather I am already having withdrawals.
I have always been a dragger but this year I decided to use a nimrod pack with the meat bag. A very good decision.

I did cape him out...just not for me. I am giving the cape to my taxidermists for a credit towards a whitetail mount that he is doing for me.
