Default Too attached to your knife

So today I broke the tip off my knife blade doing something stupid. I've had this knife it seems forever, even lost it on the beach and found it later that same day!! Anyway I was told by "someone" (my gf) to just buy a new one, and I should'nt be so attached to a knife. My question is, do others feel the same way about certain hunting, or fishing items, or am I just too attached.

How many memories would you have in a new knife? Aside from a few bucks, what's a new knife worth to you compared to that knife?

Fix it up as best you can and carry it with pride.

If you can rework the blade to a nice point,do that.I have.
There are also several manufacturers that will put a new blade in for little of nothing.Maybe that will just freshen up those memories a bit.Make them a bit brighter.

Knifes are like girlfriends, sometimes you do need to get a new one.

I know how you feel. I broke the tip off my favorite fishing rod that I got when I was in the 8th grade. I was really bummed about it, and my friend's dad fixed it so it was useable. The fix made it really stiff, though, and it just wasn't the same.

I was not very happy about having to get a new rod after using the old one for 20 years. I'm adjusting, though, and I have caught fish with it. Maybe in 20 years, I will be as attached to this one.

This may sound really dumb, but you could make a little shadow display with it. You can get a shadow box, and somehow creatively display the knife, and some other outdoor mementos or items that represent some of the good memories. Set it on your dresser or a shelf, and you'll be able to think back on those good times.

Sorry about your knife.

The only knife I have that I care about was given to me by my father. It belonged to his grandfather who was a taxidermist who sold mounts to museums all over the world. Its a stag handle knife with a about a four inch tool steel, hallow ground blade, and an ancient old leather sheath with a buffalo engraved on it. I carried it on my first few hunting trips when I was a teenager, and used it to skin a bear, coyote, and countless small game critters. Eventually I realized it was way to valuable to be used and it now resides in a box in my closet, to one day be given to one of my boys.

Pick up a new gerber, but save your old knife for the sentimental value.

I had a pocket knife given to me by my Dad. Back around 1980 I was in Montana trout fishing on the banks of the Beaverhead. I had some surgery the week before and the stiches were killing me. Sat down, heated the blade and tip of my pliers and took the stiches out. Man that felt good, so good that I forgot my knife. Later in the day when time to clean a few trout that were bleeding and I killed, no knife. Took me an hour to walk back to get that knife, but atleast I could stand up straight.

Still have it but do not carry it any more. Just a keepsake now to be passed down to the next generation when the time comes.

I can relate, the emotions are strong!
I bought a Kershaw from a coffee stand in Seaside, the fall of 97. I was down there doing a total remodel on a beach house. The guy at the coffee stand tried to sell it to me for weeks and I tried to get a better price for the same period of time. On the day before I was to leave he came down to a resonable price for a Kershaw. I bought it. It was the first knife I had ever owned that had the little knob at the pivot point to flip it open with. I practiced opening and closing that knife with one hand for weeks.
I carried that knife for better than ten years and just a couple months ago it disappears. I remember coming home, getting the mail and using my knife to open the mail, always sharp as a razor. The next morning I couldn't find my knife. I tore the house apart, went through the trash and even the couch. No luck. Having misplaced things in the past I was sure it would either show up on it's own in a day or two or if I was to buy a new one I would find the old one. I went three days without my knife and was going crazy. I stopped by the B art store and low and behold the Kershaws are on sale. I bought one that was similar to the old one and then rushed home to browse around for the old one.
No luck, but the good news is the new knife does everything the old one does. Flicks right open, melts through envelopes and is always ready to slice, dice or a quarter turn of a screw. The being without a knife was far worse than living with the replacement.
The memories are still there; cleaning 18" trout with that 3" razor sharp blade was just plain grand standing and a memory that'll last.

So Kershaw is gonna put a new blade in for me, thats good. I think I'm going down to the B mart and see what they got for a temporary carry replacement.... Maybe like a new g-friend??? The new one might just feel as good clipped on my pocket... For now of course.

Think you might want to try a "step up" from BMart for the GF!

Try Sportsmans! They have a better selection and prices are just as good!

Best of Luck!!
