Here's my story!
I was born & rasied here in Clark County, with no brothers or sisters,my best friend & I started sturgeon fishing back when we were in highschool, we used to fish out of a little 14ft. boat that we installed datsun 510 seats in that faced backwards so we could recline & fish, heck we used to even sleep out there in that thing around the beacon rock area, often times getting awoken by rain falling on us, so we'd put garbage bags over us & wait it out, (no top on the boat) anyway, as the years passed by, we upgraded our equipment, better rods, better reels, finally a better boat, 24ft cuddy, we could be out in any cruddy weather & still fish for sturg. That was until April 15th 1994 when my Fishing partner went out alone on the boat with his 6 year old daughter to go fishing, he was just above the Camas washougal marina (we've caught alot of keepers there) he was going out to the front of the boat to drop the anchor, & somehow slppied off into the water, not sure if he hit his head on the way down or not, his 6 year old daughter jumped into the water to save him, (she had her life jacket on) but she floated down river & clung to the floating sign at the mouth of the marina, luckily some fisherman saved her, as for My buddy Mark, he was gone, we looked for months for his body, by boat, walking the shore, looking everywhere that made sense, he was finally found 2 1/2 months later down by sovie island, probably a good thing I didn't find him, not a very good site, anyway, after that nightmare, I sold the boat, & helped his wife through that tragedy, she has since re-married, I haven't fished for sturgeon since then until a few months ago, so I'm trying to get back into it, I don't have a boat these days, but was lucky enough to get a 14ft. Kerry Burkeimer sturgeon rod for my last birthday, put a Daiwa 50HSD on it, now I'm ready!
