Default Longitude/Latitude coordinate converter

Hey guys, with all the coordinates flying around here for TUNA! and salmon, I thought this link was appropriate. We all know how to look at the SST charts and see where the warm water is, or plug a coordinate into the GPS, but, at least I have never known how to estmate point A to point B. Just plug in the coordinates for Point A and Point B, and this link will tell you the distance. The only problem with it is it gives it to you in metric. Now whats the conversion for KM to miles???

If memory serves me correctly, it's 2.2 km to a mile. Better yet, here's a site that gives you km, miles and nautical miles:

There are 1,609 meters in a statute mile.
There are 1,852 meters in a nautical mile.

1 minute of latitude = 1 nautical mile = 6076 feet

1000 mm per meter
1000/25.4 (mm/inch) = 39.37" per meter
39.37/12 = 3.28 feet per meter
5280/3.28 = 1609 meters per statute mile
6076/3.28 = 1852 meters per nautical mile

(I think it's 2.2 pounds to a kilo.)

Just a little correction Pitch,

One minute of latitude equals 1.15 miles

One second of latitude equals +/- 101 feet

One degree of latitude equals 69.1 miles

edit....statute miles

I'd bet a cup of coffee that the plastic Jesus has a feature that will calculate the distance between Point A and Point B.

Always good to know how to measure and calculate rough distances the old fashioned way too, just in case the batteries run out.

How many meters in a fathom? How many grams in a kilo?
