late season archery. Worth the effort?
Well, I did not get an elk or deer this year, and am contemplating the late archery season. I have a place to stay at the coast and can invest some time hunting the open units near me. I know the weather will suck, it's right after rifle season, etc. But I figure nothing ventured, nothing gained.
Have any of your found success with the late hunt?
thanks,
GBS

A day in the woods, rain or shine is better than any day sitting at home!

Deer or elk?
If you're talking deer, there are many people who don't even waste their time during first season because the late season is so good. For myself, deer season STARTS on the 22nd.

Re: late season archery. Worth the effort?
Last year I went out on the last day of the late season archery and got a pretty nice cow. I also saw sign virtually everywhere. I plan on going out again this year.

I have a late archery elk tag and plan on hunting, although I will have to hunt new ground that I have never seen before.

I will be out there also. The leaves are dropping like flies or faster. You will actually be able to see better. If its brown its down in late season. Of course you cant take a bull.
I wish they would open up the trask and wilson units for the 2 weeks we get to hunt late season.

Black tail are in rut. Late season is trophy time. Huntin in the snow is fun. The woods are wide open and quiet and you can walk where you couldnt in summer the brush has died off. The animals are tyed to food plots.

I love the late hunt. Nothing like rattling in the side ways rain.
And by the way, you traditional guys ROCK.

Rain is a bowhunters best friend!
Seriously, walking in the rain is as good as it gets. The rain covers your noise and wet ground means less crunching. I don't even get excited until 2nd season.

Confused on the regs here, how do you go about getting a late season archery tag if you already hunted deer and elk? Maybe you purchsed a left over tag or are talking about hunting in Wa.? I'd love to try a late season Elk archery tag also, but was told I can only choose 1 elk and 1 deer tag regardless of method in Or.

you can use your unused archery elk and deer tag for the lateseason anterless elk hunt and any deer hunt. Check the hunting regs on page 61 it will give you a list of units you can hunt

Re: late season archery. Worth the effort?
yep, that's correct. I did not kill a deer or elk, so this is my second opportunity. Looking forward to it.
Thanks guys for the kudos about the season. Sounds like many of you have done well.
Wish me luck!
