Default Garibaldi on the 9th of August

Here's what I can get from the tide tables for that Saturday.

High 10:14 PM Friday Aug. 8, 2003 --- 8.5ft
Low 05:40 AM Saturday Aug. 9, 2003 --- -0.9ft
High 12:23 PM Saturday Aug. 9, 2003 --- 6.1ft

Max flood current is at 0930. This is not a huge deal but max Ebb current is. You do not want to cross the bar at 2:30 in the afternoon on this day. Leaving the dock prior to 0600 is probably not a great idea either. The tide exchange is ALMOST 10 FEET !!!

Anyone takng any bets on the likelyhood of a closed bar at first light?

I would like to do some crab off the S. Jetty and maybe get out for some kings at the 30 fathom line.

Anyone planning to do this trip should make a float plan that includes

1) Leave to cross the bar at 0630 and cross at slack tide.
2) Go North, not South because the prevailing wind is from the north and it almost always blows in the afternoon.
3) Return and cross the bar no later than 1 PM and avoid the afternoon. Potentially the worst conditions of the day. Wind + Ebb tide + Garibaldi = bad conditions.

This bar has recently killed several fishers. It has never been among my favorites. We should be very careful here and not add to the number of casualties.

If we use our brains, we can do this safely.

Who is fishing Garibaldi for Ifishstock? Pssssttt. I know where to find some Salmon if we can cross the bar that day.

Hey John, we are planning on hali on 8/8 and Salmon on 8/9. Are you going down Friday night? If so, maybe we can hook up for a beverage. I landed a 42 pounder down there last Friday. I tried to post the pic but it didn't work . It should be a fun weekend. HJ

I'll be there Saturday with some Ifishers onboard. I was looking at the same thing. If it's nice enough we run out at 6:30am but more than likely the bar will be closed until a ways into the flood. Possible crossing at 8am under those conditions and the return will be no later than 2pm.

Plan to be revised as the date gets closer.

Thanks Pete, I was hoping to cross over and find a few salmon myself. IF 6:30 is going to be the crossing time should we be at the bar and ready to motor out at 6:30 or can we be at the boat ramps just leaving at that time. Would channel 78 to be the order of the day?

About those salmon you have locked in on, are they in my freezer? No, I didn't see them there either. You must have been looking in someone elses freezer. I did nail a couple Saturday.

Looking forward to the 9th. I will have Rags, Lucky Luke and Dr Strangelove with me for the day.

Jenny best tie down the roof with the likes of all the Ifishers coming over. The Kilches may never see a finer

Hmmmm 3:1 odds they will close the bar with a minus tide and a 9.4 foot exchange added to the recent casualties. Later is better. I would think that 7:40 might be more favorable but I am just cautious.
Plan A for Sea Lion is to try for Halibut out of Newport but time and weather will determine what my course will be.
I have a lot of catch-ing up to do fish wise but I will play it safe to make sure I am around to fish another day.
Great heads up, Thanks Johnboy
