Default Surface Action

Has any of you Salty Dogs noticed any surface action this year ? Coho's feeding near the surface
at the Jetty or out in the deep blue would provide for some great fly fishing. Has anyone ever
tried this ? I think it is an overlooked opportunity for Local Flyfisherman. There are times and
places where this occures and I would like to research where and when it happens. Usually
later in the season when the fish are close such as behind the South Jetty at Newport.

BTW I am new to Ifish. Been reading it for months but just got a new account.
Jennie started this thread for me awhile back. That's me holding the Springer.

Out of Westport a couple of weeks ago we had a hard time getting our cut plugs though the top 10' of water with out a Coho slapping them. Most right on the surface. Sounds like fun.

BTW, great boat.

Out of Depoe Bay last weekend the Coho were all over the surface crashing bait balls. It was glassy calm and we could see the bait balls and then huge splashes as coho crashed through them. I began casting a krocodile at cruising fish as we were trolling...had to follows (which immediately did u-turns and hit our troll rods) and I caught one nice 10 pound smoothback. Lots of fun. I am taking a fly rod with me next time. Also had a coho hit a hoochie right at the stern as my buddy was checking his lure...busted him right off!!!
