Tuna handline length?
Say a guy went and bought a 400' roll of tuna cord the other day, and a friend decided that he wanted to split it with him. What length's would be best to cut the remaining 200'of cord? I was thinking of 2-75' and one 50'. Would those be to short or to long? Should I tell him to go and buy his own tuna cord  .
Thanks,
love2fish

Re: Tuna handline length?
Personally I'd tell him to buy his own tuna cord.
75' is about right for the long lines. I run 2 at about that length off each corner of the boat. I also run a couple at about 80-90' coming off of the flying bridge up high...then run some short ones. I can fairly easily use up a 400' roll by myself.

Re: Tuna handline length?
Thanks Sea Jypsea,
I was thinking of running the 2-75' on the outside and a 50' in the middle. My boat is only 20' so I think 3 will be plenty.

Re: Tuna handline length?
If you're looking to run the 2 75' lines on the outside, I'd put 2 short in on divers right in the prop wash. This is how I ran my 20' Sea Ray, and had great success with this combination. I put one diver right on each side of the outdrive, about 15' of tuna cord, to the diver. Worked out well, and gave good success.
I could fairly easily solo with 4 handlines, (made for a good challange when I'd triple them. )

Re: Tuna handline length?
Sea Jypzee,
I'm still really new at this ocean fishing, let alone tuna fishing. Is it going to make a difference that I have a jet drive rather than a prop? At 7 or 8 mph, the wash is back quite a ways.
thanks for the help,

Re: Tuna handline length?
hmmmmm, honestly I am not sure on that one. (re: the jet drive). Having never been on a jet drive boat, or run one, I have little experience in differences in technique there. Sorry!

Re: Tuna handline length?
Been out on a jet a few times. Didn't seem to make much difference, except in the lousy gas mileage!

Re: Tuna handline length?
Hey I think the "other guy" is a nice guy and I think he is cool so I would split it with him.
